Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Recently I was in Kolkata and visited the Victoria Memorial. In the compound there used to lie a Fordson van, so I went looking. There is now additionally a tractor. The Fordson van has fallen to pieces. Top and bottom pictures are the remains of the van.
Now this is just scrap, for the album of RIP

Cheers harit

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Does anyone know of this grand Packard convrtible sedan ? Is said to be an Ex Maharajah car photographed in India by Michael Worthington-Williams.

Its been published in a book called Rust in Piece by Malcolm Tucker.

The author thinks its from the period 1935 to 39 and might be a V12 bodies by a British coachbuilder.

I dont recollect seeing this car on the Indian circuit ever.

Does anyone know if there are any V12 Packards other than the Mallya Double Six still present in India?

Also any idea what could that large car next to the Packard be ?

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Also from the same book a 1926 Lancia Lambda is pictured in a sorry state.

The author says "This car is in India, of no interest to the local vintage car club, and due to India's embargo on the export of "old" cars, it remains neglected.

Any news on what happened to thsi one ?

Wasif, that car is the Dhanrajghir car, what a lovely car. And the one behind is the Daimler, now in Delhi. You asked about V12 Packards, you mentioned Mallya's, so I mentioned that there is one more, that of Nabha.
No riddles.
No idea about Lancia, maybe it is the one which is still in this condition, and the top has come off. But not sure.

Cheers harit

This car is in more bad shape today. Its in MH . probably beyond restoration . Owned by a very nutty Bawaji .

Found this at a garage opposite to Suraj water park on Ghodbunder road.
As per mechanics at the garage, the car is there from last 1.5 years & under some sort of resto !/!/!

Sad! BTW, how come the rear wheels are tucking in like that?? The camber seems so very familiar (to me atleast! )

Tsk tsk Shyam, trying to find STANHER in Merc??
The tinker job is very shoddy. The entire boot space is welded around edges.

I spoke to the garage owner yesterday evening & he has given assurance that he'll speak to the owner of vehicle & get back to me.
The papers are also not in order. Keeping fingers crossed.

This car has a lot of original parts intact, a real shame!

The grab-handles (roof-sides, interior), horn-button, rims and a few other parts have already been salvaged by a fellow tbhpian.
