Haha! That would but open a Pandora's box in their minds and they'd probably quote the same price for the scooter in the same condition as it is now!!

Anyways, about a Hillman Minx in Bangalore that was posted and the story behind it discussed in this thread earlier:

I happened to see this car (and house) for the first time in person on a 1-day visit to Bangalore yesterday, taken there by sidman and friends.
Sad to find this car falling apart now- someone's pulled the bootlid off the hinges and but for the stay it would've been flicked off by now! And the interior's completely cleaned out - seats etc. all gone!

One headlight's smashed and front parking lights lost their lenses too.

House is equally gone worse, also extensively vandalised! Sadly in our country, things are not allowed to even die on their own!

In the last pic., you see the bootlid partly put back on- not the work of any ghost, twas I who did that- thought it was the least comfort to the poor old car! 'wish I could put it back on properly but it was rather too heavy and too dirty (people have been p**ing all over the car etc.! ) to touch.

Shyam, again went through the earlier posts on this car that you have referred to.Sad to read about the murder incident and the goings-on in its aftermath. The car must have been very original looking at what remains. Only hope the car will see better days sometime in the future.

Nope mate, unfortunately was less of a bike fan earlier on in life. That changed over time but don't remember noticing these :-) Wonder what happened to them. Is a pity that people back then didn't appreciate what they had. Cheers.

The W116 hadd already been stripped of its interiors and roof.
There was another car- a W123 most probably- which was more or less intact except for a broken windshield. Both the 300 SD and the W123 were Very restorable. It would be a pity if these vehicles escape the collectors' eye and end up as scrap metal.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

The prices these scrap dealers ask are the main reason for these cars to go into non restoration and why they end up as scrap. Remember these are not particularly restorable or sought after, they are not even classics (in my eye they are but lets get actual here) and scrapping is one of the main reasons why one would get used second hand parts in the city. Not to say im for slaughtering these machines.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

That 300SD had some documents issue & thus was scrapped by the owner. I was at C/B on the day she arrived & was the first one to be gawking at her. Spoke to my contact & found that she has some paperwork issues. She sure did look majestic among the other ruins.
I see another one (white color) parked outside Saifee hospital everyday. She is there in the same place from last 3 months or so. Has DOC sticker on it but security guy really sized me up when I enquired.

DO VISIT "GOLDEN STAR" (next to Saifee Hospital) they are giving alphonso aamras (Yummy mango puree) with Thali.
Sunday is unlimited aamras.

Raab Rakha.

1979(?) Mercedes Benz W123T Station Wagon @ Coloba

Spotted this 1979(?) Mercedes Benz W123T Station Wagon rotting outside the gate of Sasoon Dock at Coloba, near Sasoon Complex Naval Officer's Building.
The car is LHD & has been in a very bad state. Whole exhaust has been lying on the road & the car is filled with lots of carpets. The car seems to be fitted with the wheels of Cielo

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

These are not Cielo wheels but the steel pressed wheels that come in a Mercedes. They are OE Mercedes steel discs. This car has been here for more than three years now. Not exactly here but in this place since over two years. Prior to that it used to be parked on Wodehouse road, that is in the lane behind.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Post some more pictures of the V8 car Pavan so we can see how it looks.

Chevy was not making V8's in thsi period, the car must be a Ford V8 from mid to late thirties, we can tell better if you post pictures of the whole car.

The style of the V8 script and the position is classic Ford V8

Sad to see this car! Any other pics. of it? The other car is not a Dolphin though, but a Montana, going by the ribbed C-pillar and it seems to be a 4-door.

+1 this is clearly a V8 Ford script. Engine seems to be missing. The car may not be restorable in the first place.

Cheers

FYI.

As per discussions i had with the erstwhile car owner:

This car belongs to one Mr Satyanarayana.

This particular Car came to Bangalore in 1978, in full running condition from Hyderabad.

During 1985 - 1990 the car was handed over to one Mr. S******I in a decent running condition.

But after few years, that mechanic shifted his shop 1 km away from here, unfortunately he left behind the Montana's and this particular Ford V8 to rot. Yet had some disputes with the earlier owner.

Over the years the helpless car owner had no other option but to leave the car to rot as he had too many business commitments and the mechanic was not willing to take the car.

In this bargain, he lost the engine to the mechanic, The seats of the car were in good condition and was sold to some gentleman at Delhi few months ago.

But in the end, the car will never see the light of the day....
