I think the ultimate "Rust In Pieces" photograph . even though it some might think it should be in the "Beyond Borders" section.

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

Found these two cars lying in Shivajinagar bangalore a Morris Minor (125 grand) and a Mark III Herald (75 Grand).

But by the look of it they seem to be belonging to this thread (atleast the Morris Minor).

That re-registered Morris seems to be an abandoned restoration project. Though the asking price is too much IMO. Here one can acquire a Morris in 40 to 60K.

The Herald looks fairly restorable- for now atleast!

It was featured on this forum earlier (around 2 years ago), in the same condition and was said to have been for sale @ 50k back then!

The Minor would do as a parts donor. But not at that price!

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

I've seen this Austin A40 Devon (BYJ 237) on a couple of posts earlier; one where it looked like she had a fresh coat of paint (sometime in 2007).

Back then, the car was resting in Parsi Colony, Dadar. Right now, her rusting spot is in Chunabhatti. A friend clicked these pics for me. According to his investigation, the owner is a local baker. I don't know if he wishes to sell the car.

@pro's : need your opinion on how restorable this car is, how much one should pay, etc. I intend picking it up once I have some cash to spare.

Maybe, you should first ask the baker what kinda dough he has in mind! And then spread the bread!!

The car looks quite good to me though, the corroded panels notwithstanding. But I'm no expert, the gurus will advise better.

Its very much restorable and you have a few things missing and a very nice car to enjoy daily. It would be great to see the car in better hands and a word with the baker would be advisable.

cheers

The A40 has the BYJ Nagpur registration. Please check up the meters, engine, carburettor (should be a SU) and other parts for originality. The tail lights appear original and in good condition. The badges from the front grille are vandalised perhaps. The chrome strip from from its left hand side too is vandalised. You will have to procure the 4 wheel hubcaps.
Try and get the car moved to a secure place in case you intend to buy it as the way things seem the car's external parts are becoming favourites for vandals.
The car is fit for restoration and may require some moderate efforts.

thanks for your replies kasli and anjan. I hope to go see this baker once the paycheck for January arrives!

Any tips on where I could get the restoration done? I live in New Bombay, so some place close to home would be great with regards to monitoring the work. (background info : I have zero experience in automobiles aside from my daily drive, and changing my tires a couple of times)

Re: Rust In Pieces... Pics of Disintegrating Classic & Vintage Cars

I stay just 15 minutes away from this one. It's accumulated a lot of dust and dirt underneath while makes one think like it's 'sinking' into the ground; perhaps a couple of years later it'd really have!

Anyway, coming back to the owner aka the 'pav-wala' as he's locally known there.
The car #1 i.e. the Austin still has a running engine in there. The owner does not wish to part with it.
The car #2 i.e. the silver LHD Mercedes W126 is his daily driver of sorts which he uses, wait for it, to deliver bread!!! :O True story guys.

@no_enthu_da : Just my 2 cents, but you may still try. Cheers!

I'm just waiting for my Jan paycheck; once it's there, I'll be in a position to go talk to this 'pav-wala'.
