They are in Pune maybe upto tomorrow, after which they proceed to Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and then back to Bombay before shipping out. We hope to catch them in Bombay with our VWs.

You can read more about their travels at http://www.leroadtrip.com/

No, hang on, the latest update is that they might stay put in Delhi till at least Sunday (with a trip to Agra and back over Friday). So you guys in Bombay, have a few days more before they fetch up in your city. Even if they leave Delhi on Monday (slim chance), they won't be in Bombay before Wednesday, at the earliest.

All the way from the hills of Himachal currently. With a long stay, before and after in Delhi, of course. And yes, so that you remember her name this time, his girlfriend's name is Soizic

Edit:

They also have a visit to the VW factory in Poona lined up, invited by an empolyee of VW, a German gent they befriended in Poona last time they were there. They are on a very tight schedule this time - the Iranian visa obtained with much difficulty requires them to enter and exit Iran within 14 days, 2 or 3 out which have already elapsed! Just some additional dope, FYI.

Yup, they visit Chakan plant on Monday morning, and load the car on Tuesday, so tomorrow is the only slot we have.

Re: The Classic Drive Thread. (Mumbai)

I wonder if anyone met up at all. I suggest that in order to have a nice gathering and program, the travelling folks and their local contact inform all a bit more in advance. As we all know, yesterday was mothers day and many of us have wives who are also mothers. It gets difficult to sneak away. Others are perpetually booked with family on weekends and have to plan in advance to come to these gatherings.
It would have been grat to meet up and listen to stories of their journey.

Cheers harit

'66 VW Microbus on a World Road Trip. Pit-stop at VW's Chakan Factory

Related Thread

A French couple, Mr. Seb Houisse (32) and Ms. Soiziclasne (30), are out on a World Road Trip. They visited the Volkswagen Pune Plant at Chakan in their '66 Volkswagen Microbus.

They have been travelling for the past 10 months. The journey started in July 2012 and so far, they have visited around 15 countries, including the USA, Canada, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam. The 47 year old vehicle (8 years owned by Mr. Houisse) has been modified for the World Road Trip with a 1.8-liter engine (originally a 1.5-liter engine) and a gearbox from the Beetle, rest everything is original. For this tour, the vehicle is shipped only between the continents.

The couple started their Indian journey in April 2013. Covering places like Chennai, Gujarat, Jaipur, Agra and Himachal Pradesh, they came to Pune to visit the Volkswagen Plant at Chakan.

The couple will be crossing borders to move to their next destination - Iran. En route, they also plan to visit Turkey.

Re: '66 VW Microbus on a World Road Trip. Pit-stop at VW's Chakan Factory

I caught up with Seb and Soizic a few times over the last week, they leave India today after over a month in India. They had a variety of experiences, both good and not so pleasant Their trusty bus has held up well so far, with only one major problem being the steering box. They cast a new part in Delhi and problem solved.

When in Pune (the second time) they visited the VW factory. Unfortunately while entering the plant, the Bus was involved in a fender bender with a lamppost, though the great guys at VW Motorsport quickly set the rear bumper right. What better place to be in? VW were gracious hosts.

They also caught up with a big bunch from the Beetle Club, and met local journalists who have covered their trip. You can follow their story on www.leroadtrip.com (its only in French, but the Google Translate tab is very effective)

From here they travel to Dubai, Iran, Turkey, Greece and back home after a year on the road. Wishing them all the best.
