Faster, what bare chassis is the one you posted?
I must confess I'm genuinely at sea with that one. I'm not even sure if that's my picture.

Experts suggest it is a Bugatti chassis - in which case probably the car now with Mallya? So glad the car has been saved, even if not yet finished.

Re: Faster789's collection

That was my first thought as the dimensions suggest a 44, but I don't think the dash matches.

I tend to agree with the experts. The rear end seems to suggest Type 44 - petrol tank filler, chassis cross member, suspension mounts, etc.

Some general similarities at the front too.

Thank you Travancore for resolving the issue with the Type 44 chassis.

Faster789's collection

Brilliant snap of the Farman and Bentley ! Too good

Is the Citroen MYX featured in the snap sharing space with what I feel is the Swift now with Mallya ? The car (white ) certainly is not the more common early 20s Wolseley's seen in India . Attachment 1363586

The snap of the Chevy is taken in which area any clue ? Up North as the back ground suggests more developed roads

Thanks

Cheers

The Citroen (check out that tyre groove in the older photo!) is likely to be the oldest of its kind in India, dating to the first year of manufacture for the brand - a genuine 1919 Type A. It survives in a Bombay collection along with a Traction Avant.

Faster789's collection-03.jpg

The rumble seat car I presume is the same Swift seen in earlier pics of Faster, and I assume the same car surviving in Bombay, though its just speculation.

Faster789's collection-swift.jpg

That superb picture down Rajpath shows the Idar/Bharatpur/Karauli Farman and the early Bentley 3 litre surviving in MP. The Rolls 20hp we see is the 1927 Barker Tourer #GRJ1, ex Nawab of Sachin and now in Delhi

My bad, Rampur was meant ofcourse. Rewa had nothing to do with this car.

The Veteran is most probably the Rover now in Delhi, it resided in a hill station in south India

The Daimler could be the car currently residing in Ahmedabad. It still looks like this.

The last car is ofcourse the Cadillac 1922.

I am not clear about the history of the Farman. Here it is seen being driven, and appears to be in good nick. The period appears to be around 1970. Apparently the car was then again garaged at a Maharaja's palace, and retrieved in the 1980's when she was pulled out in poorer condition. To get her out the garage door had to be broken. From there she came to Bombay, was lying with a Rolls, and then got illegally exported.

This Bugatti was damaged in a roof collapse in the Adenwalla bungalow, then taken to Pune and kept open to the elements. Can't make out from when this photo is, probably taken after the roof collapse and when the elements have taken their toll.

Keeping in line with the period, here is a photo of the Invicta taken at the rally held from the Petroleum House near Mantralaya. Hope Faster likes this. Is anyone recognizable to you?

Cheers harit

There was an ex-Holkar car in Bombay of the similar era, but I think with a Gurney Nutting Coupe body (hardtop) which does survive, albeit derelict. I could be wrong, and these could be the same car.
The stunning Alfa is likely to have been an ex Jaipur car. Probably exported, and hence hopefully is alive somewhere.

Nabha SG 2514, Mandi 20/25 GTK41, Berar Bentley, Bharatpur PII 121GY, Alvis, Lancia Astura, etc.......

This glorious thread has now been defunct three years almost to the day.....

Does anyone think that the rear view is of the two toned Buick in Faster789's fabulous photo ?

The bumpers seem different though
