please: Hi guys!
Me Sali from Kerala. I hightly appreicate if any one help me to find the exact size of Rim for my Mahindra Classic.
Now the is Jeep running with normal disc and tyre. I want to make it more sporty look so I'm doing some alterations and I would like to change the tyre from Bias to Radial type with Chrom plated or Alloy type Rims. Could anyone can help me to find the right Tyre and Disc (Rim) size please. Some one told me i can use tyres like 215/75 R15 or 225/70 R15. If I buy any of those types, what size of disc I need to find. I'm planning to import the Chrome plated or Alloy Discs from Saudi Arabia.
If I buy tyre size 225/70 R15 or 225/75 R15 what is the size of rim I need? Expecting some reply on this matter from those who specialized in this kind matter

firstly welcome to tbhp and have a great stay.incase you havent gone through the announcements section.it will help you around.if your getting 215/75 R15 or 225/70 R15.your tyre widthwill be 215/225 mm and the side wall will be 75 % or 70 % of 215/225 respectively and the rim size will be 15 inches.i dont know about the exact rim size of the mahindra classic but if one of the dealers suggested you one of these you could go with it after the experts comment.basically if you go in for the size mentioned above then you should be lookin for 15 inch rims.

Apologies for the late reply. I went through a similar situation when choosing an upsize for my Mahindra Classic (You can read more about her in the long term reviews section).
After a lot of trial and error, I found that the best fit is 225/70/15 rubber. I experimented with 235 and an 80 profile, but both were touching the chassis on full lock.
Check out Michelin all terrains. I am extremely happy with them.
EDIT: 235/75 R15 is the best tyre size for the CJ340 / Classic.

His Awatar itself telling me that he is the person am looking for answering my questions.. Since I'm in Saudi Arabia and the Jeep is in Kerala, I can't check it directly what the size etc.. I want take all this stuffs from here with me to Kerala.
GTO. I decided to go with 225/70/R15. Few more doubts to be cleared please.
1.What about the Rim? what I need to know while selecting the Rim? the size is 15' and then what is it's width? 6 inch is ok?
2. About the Stud. I think Mahindra is using 5 stud naa. Here in Saudi I can c vehicles using from 4,5,6,8 and upto 10 studs.
3. Do we need to check the Center Hole in the Rim? I mean the diameter of the whole. it should match exactly with what we have with our classic right now naa?
Since GTO has got the exact machine which I have, I think you can give me a right answer!! GTO if you got few snaps of your Classic, can you forward me to my private mail pls.. I would like to know what are the alterantions that u done on your baby!

Bumping a very old thread! CJ340 is almost Classic, that's my excuse.
Currently I am having a 4.5 inch wide 15 inch steel rims on the CJ340. I am considering upgrading the rims to alloys. I'll be keeping the tubetype tyres for now.
The vehicle came with 235/75R15 tyres mounted on original rims. As a result the tyres touch the body while turning, in fact I can't fully turn the wheel. Therefore, I am looking for a negative offset alloy wheel.
Somebody please suggest some alloy wheels of size 15x6.5 or 15x7. The PCD is 139.7 and offset should be negative.

Look for a 15x8 wheel with a backspace of 3 to 4.5 inches. Bolt hole pattern is 5 x 5.5 ( 5 holes on a 5.5 inch diameter circle) .
Not sure what you mean by 139.7 PCD
You can ask for an alloy rim that fits a Gypsy, and it should work fine for the Jeep. Most alloy on the market will have sufficient backspace such that a larger than stock tire will not rub on the full turn. 4.5 inch backspace is very common for aftermarket alloys.

Well, PCD is the same diameter of the circle. 5.5 inch = 139.7mm (5.5x25.4mm : 1 inch = 25.4mm)
But did you say 15x8 wheels, isn't 8 inch too much for a 235mm width tyre?

8in would be too wide. I have 7in rims with 235/75R15 tyres, and the sidewalls bulge out too much. go for 6/6.5 inch rims.

Right, PCD means bolt circle diameter. I can't figure out half the acronyms on this forum. Wish folks would take a little more effort to type out what they want to say.
15x8 wheels will work fine. These will also give you the type of offset that you are looking for to prevent rubbing.
There is no such thing as bulging out too much.:D 15x8 is just about the most common type of rim used in the U.S. for Jeep applications. Plus you can even run larger tires in the future.

15x8 is good for 31-10.5R15 or 31-11.5R15. 235/75R15 is a much narrower tyre. Bulging sidewalls invite cuts and damage, epecially when aired down.

Take a look at the following link regarding tire sizing and rim sizes:

BF Goodrich recommends a 6 to 7 inch width for 235 75 15 tire. So 7 inches is definitely not too wide.
I was recommending the 15x8 to give better (numerically lower) backspace that would push the tire out and away from rubbing the frame. Go with a 15x6 or 15x7 if you will never go larger than the 235 and want to go by the book. But if you think that oversize tires might be in your future, the 15x8 will still work fine with the 235 75r15 and even better with 30 or 31 inch flotation tires.

Gaurav, the PCD (pitch circle diameter) is a very familiar term to most BHPians, I was surprised that stumped you. We even have a very popular parked thread on PCDs:

But I don't have Scorpio engine man.:D If I go for wider tyres than 235, the Jeep may not pull very well. Too much contact patch.

A 15x7/6 rim with a higher than usual outset will serve the same purpose as a 15x8.

1. How good are the original tyres? Ideally, I'd look at a 225 patch tyre for the 340. But if your 235's are in great shape, obviously there isn't a need to replace them. As I posted earlier, I didn't opt for 235's as they were touching the insides on full lock.
2. 6 inch wide will be perfect for the 235s.
3. The Classic originally came with wire wheels (attachment 1), but Mahindra replaced them with a smart 5 spoke design later (attachment 2). They are pretty robust wheels, and have been tested by Mahindra in offroading applications. Do you want to try sourcing these. Alternatively, have you seen the three spokes on mine? They'd be easier to find.
I don't mean to confuse you with any more options but what I would do, if in your place, is keep the wheel / tyre upgrades for later. First learn the Jeep inside out...get some healthy offroading done. Then save up and go for a hardcore upsize (attachment 3 & 4).
@ Gaurav : What wheel + tyre combo is the Jeep in your avatar pic running on? Looks like a monster! Any additional pictures & review?
