Hi Guys, I have a 3 1/2 year old Honda City Gxi. The other day I saw a post in the new new Honda City thread about a special offer for existing City customers - alloys for 10k. I remember Honda selling those same alloys for 30k.
I went to Prime Honda today and the final offer was 13k for four and 15k for five, inclusive of all taxes, fitting charges etc. Since I plan to keep the car for two more years at least, I thought this isn't a bad deal at all. Obviously they are getting rid of stocks before the NNHC arrives later this month. So I bit the bullet and bought five. I thought five should make it easier when they rotate tires and switch the wheels around. I have fairly new Yoko Aspec 300s on the car - stock size.
Honda didn't take back the old rims, so I still have those. Im wondering what to do with them - sell them now or should I hold on to them, put them back on when I sell the car, and sell the alloys separately. Unless that's a bad idea because the car will fetch more with alloys. Personally I think most most accessories become freebies when the car is sold and hardly fetch anything extra. Also I checked with one tire dealer and he said the stock steel rims are hardly worth anything. In that case, holding on and switching back to them at the time of sale may be a better idea.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this dilemma. Thanks

steel rims can be given to scrap yard or kabari wala for recycling

You did a good thing with the alloys. It sure is a great price as these alloys are virtually bulletproof. Not to mention the ease of maintenance and of course, the good looks.

What your tyre dealer said is true, the steel rims that come with the car are hardly worth anything (he might take it back for about Rs.200 each if you buy alloys from him, mostly as a goodwill gesture).

It does not make much sense to hold on to them if you plan to have the car for another 3 years at least. The value of the alloys will also depreciate by that time and you can realistically expect to sell the alloys separately for about 6-9K depending on the condition. It may be better to sell it along with the car as it will add value to the car itself and make it attractive compared to a similar car without alloys for a prospective buyer.

Sell the original rims on classifieds.
When people damage rims the only option they have is to buy from a tire shop or from the showroom.
for example indica rim costs 750rs.
Tire shoppe sells them for 700. These are the rims people have given to the guy when they come in for alloys. Of course these were from a brand new car, in your case you could sell for half OEM price on classifieds.

Thanks JK anmd Quicksilver, it was a deal that was tough to resist. Part of the reason for this post was to spread the word. Although I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for T-Bhp in the first place.

The dealer I spoke to was giving me 100 rupees. Just didnt seem worth it. Tsk's idea may fetch me a better price. Come to think of it, these stock rims will fetch me next to nothing. Even 9k two years down the line for the alloys is not a bad deal. It's hard to figure out if one is getting value for accessories when one goes to sell a car.

Forget to say - not all dealers are honest about this deal. After checking with Prime I called Ace Honda, which is closer to where I live. Ace quoted 25k for the same set of wheels. When I told them about the deal, which is prominently displayed on the Honda India web site, they were puzzled and said they'll call me back. They did and said they can give me 4 for 14.5k. I asked how then were these being advertised for 10k - they had no answer. I asked the price for five and they tell me this offer is only for four. When I told them the Prime deal, they said go there. So I did.

I also received a call saying there is a 40% off if you get the car insured from Bajaj Allianz. The call had come from the Honda Dealer (Pearl) in Gurgaon. RRH was giving 30% off.

This was a Rakhi offer, it might still be valid.

Great deal. Just check whether there are any cracks (hairline cracks) on the alloys. This is very crucial. Do post some pics of alloys on your City.

This morning I called Dakshin Honda sales person and he told me about the offer of 10K, but the catch there is for 4 wheels and not 5. When inquired about the 5th wheel, he said that needs to check and get back to me with details. I am waiting for his call.

Not too sure if I should go in for 4 wheels for 10K, as it would look odd when I need to use the spare wheel.

Here is the update that I got from Whitefield Honda. The offer as published is 4 alloy wheels for 10K. Apart from this, there will be 3K charge for fixing the wheels, balancing and alignment, etc. If we need the 5th wheel as well, then the over all cost would be 19K as against the original price of 29K.

My question to the experts is, do we need to get these fitted by the service centers or can I get them fitted by specialist wheel alignment outlets (Vijay or Madhu's) and if yes, then what would it cost me in Bangalore.

Honda showroom/service center in Hyd - Off R.P Road

Spoke to the receptionist , was courted to a guy in sales called Sunil . Sunil ended up saying that they haven't received the wheels and will call me once they arrive . I wonder if this is a sales tactic by the show room itself to buy them from Honda at discounted rate and stock the alloys until expiry of the offer .

I do know all showrooms buy their stock of cars and then proceed to sell them . Could this situation arise in accesories ?
