Michelin Primacy 5 - Expected Soon

Hello all

Michelin tyres are more or less one of the favourite tyre brands of TeamBHPians and enthusiasts worldwide, they're renowned for their grippy nature, high mileage capabilities and extremely silent performance.

If we concentrate on Indian market, Michelin has the various patterns for passenger cars and SUVs to high end performance cars but their most famous pattern due to virtue of it being available in wide variety of sizes is the Primacy range. The outgoing model named as Primacy 4 ST which replaced the equally good Primacy 3 ST has been around for quite some time now ~2018 perhaps and Michelin usually launches an updated version within 5 years, and therefore we can expect the successor Primacy 5(ST) to be launched soon.

Upon surfing the net I did find an article revealing some details about the highly anticipated new tyres, the information seems pretty accurate and less likely to be farse though I'm not sure but the photos attached seem very convincing TBH. Let's hope we see more details soon in the coming days.

On a related note I guess it's high time now Michelin opens its new plant for manufacturing passenger car tyres in India since the original deadline was last year, most of the prominent dealers I spoke to seem very optimistic about plant commencing its operation by mid 2025. Fingers crossed.

Request some information by tyre gurus especially Sir @NikhilB2008

Re: Michelin Primacy 5 - Expected Soon

I got my first set of Primacy 4 on 2019 and then ended up waiting for the 4+ till last year when I replaced the 5yr old tyre with a new set of P4. Hope this makes it way to Indian shores soon.

Re: Michelin Primacy 5 - Expected Soon

I was told by a prominent tyre dealer in Pune about the Michelin car tyre factory going online from mid '25 post which we could get the range of car tyres that were missing in India due to the import ban including the Primacy range (my favourites) for 15" rims. Let's wait and see.

Yes even I was told that and it seems we bumped into the same dealer perhaps!

Hopefully the news becomes true since it's not a herculean task for a giant like Michelin to setup a factory for Passanger Car Radials(PCR) especially given the fact that they already have a huge factory for cross ply two wheeler tyres and truck tyres too and their competitors viz Continental and Yokohama have already established a factory in India and making huge profits given the sheer demand we have especially for 14&15" tyres.

I do hope Michelin reintroduces the Energy XM2 series for 12,13&14" sizes too since there is quite a demand for these sizes too. I had a rather good experience with Michelins which I fitted in my dad's WagonR back in 2018, had driven 40k kms with them but the extended period of lockdown took a toll on these tyres and cracks started appearing in them, changed them with Bridgestone Turanza T005a, good tyres and these have lasted around another 40k kms and I'm thinking to get the tyres changed once again. Really wanted Michelins but as of now due their unavailability thinking to go with either Bridgestone Turanza 6i or Yokohama Earth1 max since I don't wanna risk with worn out tyres especially on a car with already weedy handling.

Michelins definitely have an edge when it comes to grip and silence, especially the latter, I don't know what's their magic sauce but even on noisy uneven concrete surfaces like that of Mumbai-Pune expressway my SUV remains dead silent at 100kmph with engine cruising at a lazy 1600 rpm or so and Michelins keeping the road noise to almost inexistent levels. Really worth every penny. Only BIG downside of Michelins is the fact that they don't offer unconditional warranty whereas competing brands like Yokohama and Continental offer 2 years/50% tread wear unconditional warranty and this is where Michelin hurts the most especially given the fact that the tyres cost a bomb!

Still Michelins remains one of my top recommended brands, also my scooter's old MRFs have worn out considerably and the wheels lockup even on slight braking causing the scooter to disbalance which can be risky in traffic, therefore have made up my mind to change the tyres and I'm going with Michelin Pilot Street2/Anakee cross tyres, also since these are made in India, they do come with unconditional warranty too.

Similarly I've recently acquired a motorcycle too which comes with MRF Radials, they're decent and fellow BHPians have recommended me to continue with them till they wear out post which I'll definitely pick a set of Michelin Road6 or Pirelli Diablo Rosso. You can read more about my bikes' story here.https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motor...ood-dream.html (My 'Pre-loved' Suzuki Gixxer SF250 Review | Fulfilling my childhood dream)

That's what a good product can do, create inseparable brand loyalty. I hope Michelin is listening to us and sets up their plant and start production ASAP.

Thank you
Tony

Yes this is a dealer on Nagar Rd. in Pune not the guy I always go to for tyre purchases.

The Michelin factory has been in the pipeline for a number of years now. In 2021 when my Primacys finally gave up I had no choice but to go in for Continental which are good in terms of grip but pretty bad when it comes to rolling noise and comfort. A plus is obviously less fear of sidewall cuts which are Michelin tyres' biggest weakness. It was at the time of purchase that the dealer informed me about the plant and it would take at least 3 years before production began. I thought it'd be ready in '24 but '25 is good enough as my Continental tyres are good and car does not require a new set of shoes. Well, here's hoping I get my favourite Michelins at the next change.

Re: Michelin Primacy 5 - Expected Soon

Found a shorts video on YouTube showing the Michelin Primacy 5 in flesh, whether it's just me or does the tread pattern is eerily similar to the Continental UC6?
