Yes even I was told that and it seems we bumped into the same dealer perhaps !
Hopefully the news becomes true since it's not a herculean task for a giant like Michelin to setup a factory for Passanger Car Radials(PCR) especially given the fact that they already have a huge factory for cross ply two wheeler tyres and truck tyres too and their competitors viz Continental and Yokohama have already established a factory in India and making huge profits given the sheer demand we have especially for 14&15" tyres.
I do hope Michelin reintroduces the Energy XM2 series for 12,13&14" sizes too since there is quite a demand for these sizes too. I had a rather good experience with Michelins which I fitted in my dad's WagonR back in 2018, had driven 40k kms with them but the extended period of lockdown took a toll on these tyres and cracks started appearing in them, changed them with Bridgestone Turanza T005a, good tyres and these have lasted around another 40k kms and I'm thinking to get the tyres changed once again. Really wanted Michelins but as of now due their unavailability thinking to go with either Bridgestone Turanza 6i or Yokohama Earth1 max since I don't wanna risk with worn out tyres especially on a car with already weedy handling.
Michelins definitely have an edge when it comes to grip and silence, especially the latter, I don't know what's their magic sauce but even on noisy uneven concrete surfaces like that of Mumbai-Pune expressway my SUV remains dead silent at 100kmph with engine cruising at a lazy 1600 rpm or so and Michelins keeping the road noise to almost inexistent levels. Really worth every penny. Only BIG downside of Michelins is the fact that they don't offer unconditional warranty whereas competing brands like Yokohama and Continental offer 2 years/50% tread wear unconditional warranty and this is where Michelin hurts the most especially given the fact that the tyres cost a bomb!
Still Michelins remains one of my top recommended brands, also my scooter's old MRFs have worn out considerably and the wheels lockup even on slight braking causing the scooter to disbalance which can be risky in traffic, therefore have made up my mind to change the tyres and I'm going with Michelin Pilot Street2/Anakee cross tyres, also since these are made in India, they do come with unconditional warranty too.
Similarly I've recently acquired a motorcycle too which comes with MRF Radials, they're decent and fellow BHPians have recommended me to continue with them till they wear out post which I'll definitely pick a set of Michelin Road6 or Pirelli Diablo Rosso. That's what a good product can do, create inseparable brand loyalty. I hope Michelin is listening to us and sets up their plant and start production ASAP.
Thank you
