Indica gets the Apollo Acelere(EDIT: 2 new ones now!)

Finally got the 185/60/R14 Aceleres for my turbo indica. Tyre empire, whitefield road , Bangalore gave me a good deal of 2500/- bucks per piece. Apparently some comapny dealer incentive is going on which enables them to sell it at this price, and will be on for the nxt 10-12 days more...could be marketing gimmickry!
The ride quality definitely feels better than the stock Bridgestone s322s'; most obvious being silent ride and comfortable high speed cornering. Especially like the sidewall protection feature which protects your alloys from accidently scraping kerbs.

I have to get new tyres for my Indica too..this morning as my wife was driving it to work, apparently the left front gave way (torn by the what she told me, yet to see it) in stop-n-go traffic.

Acelere/Sportz are in my list..anything else that will suit me too?
I'm looking to upgrade to 185/60R13 from my current Amazer XL 165/65R13

Do not bother with sportz. Get the standard Accelere tubeless the 185/60R13 is the perfect upgrade

Bought a pair of apollo acelere 185/60/R14 for my Indigo Marina diesel for 2875/- each. Put them in front and have goodyear GPS 2 on the rear and spare now. Hope the acelere's are good on the Highway cause I plan to drive down to goa from mumbai next week.

Thats real high price you had to pay. 3850 was the quote for 195/60/R14 turanza er 60 here.

Well, Apollo Acelere do not seem to be as cheap as they were earlier. I went to one of the biggest tyre and alloy dealers here recently when one of the family cars (an Indigo) needed new tyres and alloys. I was shocked to find that for 195/60 R14 the Yoko A Drive was being quoted cheaper than the Apollo Accelere. It was of course costly by only some 100 odd bucks but nonetheless it was so. Apparently all the Indian tyre manufacturers have increased their prices in the last 3 months, or so the dealer said.

May be one of our resident tyre experts will be able to shed some light on this.

P.S.: Oh, by the way it was not as costly as the Turanzas (around 3800) but was somthing around 3450 or so. We were also told that by some weird logic (weird to me) the 185/65 is cheaper than the 185/60 (all R14) and also that the 185/60 and 195/60 more or less cost the same!

185/65 R14 is always cheaper. Be it Yoko, Michelin, Apollo, etc...

3450/- for the Acelere in 185/60R14 is almost the correct price. Of course, there is some room for bargaining(maybe). But you cant help it.

You want to see value in the Apollos, check out the prices for 185/65 R14 and compare.

Indian manufacturers have not increased prices. Prices have gone up due to scarcity of tyres.

Hmmm. But then one of the virtues being made out for the Aceleres was the price point. They costed much less than any other comparable big brands (like Yokos, Michelins etc.) and yet were supposedly pretty close in performance. Now at 3450 it is costlier than a Yoko by 50 bucks. So my point is that value factor is ebbing very fast for the Aceleres.

Ummm. I did not get this one. Compare what to what? I compared the prices of Apollo and Yokos in the same size and the Yoko A Drive was marginally cheaper.

Well, that I won't know. But the point the Ashoka Tyres guy was making was that apparently only the Indian tyre manufacturers have raised the prices of late but not the imported brands like Yokos and Michelins. That is why it seems the price gap between Aceleres and Yoko A-Drives have bridged completely and that between the Aceleres and Turanzas have narrowed down to just 350 odd rupees.

Zappo, the Aceleres in 185/65 R14 can go for as low as 2.9k. The Yokos are around 3300/-. See the difference?

In some sizes, Apollo's pricing is not so great. But in most sizes, it is really good.

BUMP ... I am looking to replace the Amazer XLs(165/65 R13) on my Indica with the Aceleres 185/60 R13. On the website I saw that the recommended rim is 5.5, the OE rim is 4.5. Can I fit the 185s on the OE rims ?

In case I need to buy new rims, can someone please let me know where to look for these in Chennai ?

Looks like Acelere are tubeless. My Xeta has steel rims (and i dont plan to go for alloys)

Is it a good idea to put tubes in Acelere ? I certainly dont want to put them on steel rim, which has bent several times in the past, thanks to the some of the roads in potholes in Pune.

Certainly, cant call them potholes in the roads.

I have 185/60R13 on stock steel rims. Just got them straightened before putting the tires. No need to get tubes in them,

It feels good to read about Indica+tyre related thread, i am also in need of advise here.

My Indica LSI 2004 is due for a tyre change, the current JK tyres did not give a smooth ride, so i would like to upgrade to better quality tyres.

I would like my next set tyres to have greater side wall height, so i was thinking if i should go for 165/80 R13 (i currently have 165/65 on stock rims, done 51000 kms).

Questions:

Can we fit the 165/80 to my car without running into issues at a later date, such as tyre touching the wheel well.

Please suggest alternatives tyre specifications and brands if the above does not work.

Do suggest brands for 165/80 R13 if its ok to fit the same.

I am primarily looking at ride comfort, i drive 80-90% in the city and even on highways i stick to sub 100 kmph most of the times. Please do give me an idea of the prices too.
