Oooh.. sweet shoes you got there sir, the stance looks so much more purposeful with these! I'm waiting for my AX7 AWD and am eyeing the exact same tyres but am hesitant due to the ~ 3.5% gain in circumference. Would be much obliged if you could please answer a few questions

1. How much clearance does the tyre have in the wheel well now? Do the tyres foul with the wheel cladding on full turn of the steering?
2. How much would you say is the increase in the road noise over the OEM's?
3. How does the 13 mm gain in sidewall height affect the ride? Does it cushion the low speed broken road ride better than the OEM's?
4. Any negative effect on braking distance noted?
5. What's the damage to the wallet?

Much thanks!

Very worthy upgrade. Where did you procure them from in Delhi and what was the final paid after buyback?

Re: XUV700 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

The OEM tyre size for the top end XUV500s (W11) and the XUV700s are the 235/60/R18s. The options that I could find are

Apollo-Apterra-HP
Apollo-Apterra-HT2
CEAT-SportDrive-SUV
Continental-ContiSportContact-5-SUV
Bridgestone-Ecopia-EP850
GOODYEAR EFFICIENTGRIP SUV
GOODYEAR EXCELLENCE
Yokohama-Geolandar-SUV-G055
Yokohama-BluEarth-RV02
Michelin-Pilot-Sport-4-SUV
Michelin-Primacy-SUV

I have not been able to find a A/T tyre. Is there any other tyre model available that fit this rim size?

Hello. You're right, there's no A/T tyre available in the market in this particular size. You have 2 options if you're particular about A/T tyres:-

1. Downsize your alloys to 17" and fit 235/65R17 size where you have many options like Ceat Czar A/T, Apollo Apterra A/T2, Yoko Geolandar A/T, GY Wrangler A/T, etc. This is the more cost effective option. You can trade in your 18" rims and tyres so that the hit on your pocket is minimal. Even the tyres cost in the range of 11-13k only per tyre.

2. If you want to stick to 18", you need to up-size to 255/60R18 size where you have the option of Continental CrossContact AX6. However, the tyres are not cheap and would set you back around 18~20k per tyre.

Just some food for thought - is your off road usage really so much to warrant going for A/T tyres? These tyres can get noisy on the highway.

My XUV500 has done about 40,000KMs and it is due for a tyre change. I don't know if there is value attached to my 18 inch rims. My car has AWD.

The normal H/T tyres for the 18inch rims are also in the similar price range of about 15-20K. Upsizing is something that I have not considered so far. I will look into it.

95% of car usage is on good roads. The problem is with the 5%. When I travel with my family on off-beat roads / tracks, I don't want to get stuck. I used to run with GoodYear Wrangler SA A/T on my older XUV500 which had 17inch rims. The steering becomes tighter, the side wall strength makes it a bit less comfortable and the mileage drops a bit with A/T as opposed to H/T. But I get peace of mind on muddy roads, etc.

Honestly, 5% usage on bad roads can be handled by any competent H/T tyres fitted on an AWD vehicle, you would not get stuck purely on the account of not having A/T tyres unless you are on extreme trails. Put your mind at ease and go for a good H/T tyre among the options you listed above

I'm merely re-iterating Shreyans' piece of advice on the same thread.

Not only will A/Ts be more noisy and less grippy on highways where you’ll do 95% of your driving, you will also get into complications with warranty.

My suggestion is to keep the car stock for the time being. Will not suggest anything that compromises warranty on such a brand new and complex car. Over time, choice in R18 is only going to increase, this size of getting popular. We can consider our options when this set wears out.

I decided to change to 17inch rims from Plati and I am getting the Yokohama Geolander A/T G015. I now have the original 18inch rims available. Will try to sell them on OLX.

Re: XUV700 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I got my tires changed to Michelin Primacy SUV+ on my XUV700 AWD - I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a quieter, softer ride as compared to the MRFs that came in my XUV700. With the Bangalore roads taking a beating from rains this year the Michelins have been a lot comfy over the potholes and broken roads.

May I know the price that you expect for the original 18 inch rims.
I need only one for the spare.

One of the employees at the tyre shop that did the fitting purchased the old set of four alloys from me. Apparently there is a good market with resellers for used alloys.

Re: XUV700 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

The "Eco" (? Economy) in the MRF Ecotreds was triggering my OCD. If there's a possibility of even a small improvement in braking distance/grip/ noise reduction by having better tyres, I would want it. So drove straight to the tyre shop from the showroom and exchanged them for Scorpion Verde's. Have driven about 3500 kms over past 10 days(mostly highways), very happy with the performance.
And to Mahindra's bean counters, what's up with the joke of a 155/90 113 M R18 balloon supposedly to be inflated to 60 PSI, mounted on a 4.5 J rim, that's supposed to be a stepney? At least provide a proper 6/7 J steel rim onto which a proper sized spare tyre can be mounted by the customer at his own expense, it's your flagship car for heavens sake.

Re: XUV700 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi All! I am getting delivery of my new XUV7OO next week and wanted to know my options to change from the OEM tyres (235/60 R18). I am not looking to change the size as I feel that the stock size is quite good. I contact Super Tyres in Nahur, Mumbai and they have Conti CSC 5 and Pirelli Scorpion Verde in stock. Are these good replacements, or is there another option that I should be looking at? My current car is a Suzuki XL6 and I was very happy with the change from stock Ecopias to Yoko Blue Earth GTs.

Would appreciate any guidance from the experts here. Thanks!

Re: XUV700 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello Friends,

I am a proud owner of a silver XUV 700 D AX7L AWD Sep-22 model.

So far I have clocked 37000 km and covered a 1600km trip to Spiti (including the dreaded Kaza to Koksar strech) and a 4600km Ladakh circuit (delhi-srinagar-kargil-zanskar-sarchu-leh-turtuk-pangong-umling la-tso moriri-manali-delhi). Now I am planning for my next road trip this summer

Till date I have used the stock tyres Bridgestone ECOPIA - EP850 235/60/R18 103V which are about 70% worn out. And i wish to change to All Terrain tyres (AT) but due to unavailability of AT in R18 it has been a big problem so far. I have been searching Team BHP forums and other resources like car enthusiasts and tyre dealers for almost two years but could not find a suitable replacement. Though I got my hands on a set of Comforsor CF1100 235/60/R18 AT 104S (imported from Canada by a fellow enthusiast) through someone I met in the Mahindra workshop who had come for service of his XUV700 but something didn't sit quite right with me (also the lower rated top speed of 180km/h which is non negotiable for me), so I let it go.

Fortunately, my persistence has paid off and I have found out that now Bridgestone is manufacturing the AT tyre in the same specs for R18 tyres for AX7 model. If any one is interested they can reach out to Bridgestone dealers and ask for the tyre mentioned below.

Details - Bridgestone Dueler All Terrain A/T 002 235/60/R18 107H.

Besides impact in areas like comfort, noise and fuel efficiency, there is also a decrease in the top rated speed of the tyre from 240 Km/H to 210 Km/H as compared to the stock HT tyre ECOPIA - EP850. Although the trade should be acceptable for the off road enthusiasts like me who have been waiting for AT tyres with exact specs for so long.

So fellow enthusiast splurge and enjoy exploring new territories, and don't forget to drive safe!

Best Regards,
Appy

Re: XUV700 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi All,
I recently purchased the XUV 700 D MT AX5 2024. I would like to know your views on replacing the spare wheel with matching alloys and tyre. The dealer is quoting around 28K (17K for matching alloy and 11k for MRF wanderer).
Does it make sense to go with this fifth alloy or continue with the spare wheel where it has its own restriction on speed and distance. I do plan to use it in some rugged areas occasionally. So, I'm very much confused on this.

Could you please guide me on this, whether the price makes sense and do I need to go with replacing the space wheel.

Thanks in advance.
Hemanth.
