Speaking to Autocar India and Autocar Professional, Neeraj Kanwar, vice-chairman and MD, Apollo Tyres said

Quote:

“We are working towards locally manufacturing Vredestein-branded tyres in India so that we are able to offer Apollo as well as made-in-India Vredestein tyres for the higher segment, primarily targeting customers of Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW.”

“In fact, this strategy is linked to the import restrictions on tyres. Imports have been happening in the higher segment of the market which is the 16-inches-and-above category and with the restrictions coming in, it opens up that market for us,”

“We will be launching the Vredestein-branded tyres in India within the next three months"

This is great news. While the Vredestein brand doesn't offer quite as much performance as other top manufacturers, they are still far better than the eco-tyres that are made in our country and I will definitely be a customer if they decide to manufacture here in India and price their tyres well :thumbs up

IMHO, this was a well-planned strategic move. It's a European brand, so they have to first maintain that "foreign'ness". In the long-term, making tyres in the home country with controlled costs is a given. Just like Jaguar-Land Rover has still resisted large scale assembly in India, but I think it will come one day.

My Vredestein Sportrac's are showing solid signs of wear only after 25K kms on my Punto Grande and maybe would only stretch for another 5k max. The drive is buttery but on the expense of low mileage, I suppose. Either I got a bad batch or the compound on these is soft and doesn't last long.

I have had Vredesteins on my B-class for the past 3 years or more.
It's a great tyre. Low noise and decent grip. Better than maybe your average MRF, Ceat and Apollo but maybe not as good as the premium Michelins.

The tyre wear is not that bad after having been used for approximately 35K kms.
Resilience to punctures has also been great.

Local manufacturing is the news but isn't the brand already available in India?

Apollo had launched Vredestein in India back in 2013 right? Here is the thread:

Or was that just a PR event?

Very right, Anand. They were available in select sizes (mostly the Sportrac range) throughout, but looks like Apollo has now brought in the 16 - 20" moulds to make them here.

They have some exquisite tread patterns, especially the Ultrac Sessanta. But better to see their reliability under Indian conditions and then buy a set.

255/45R18 seems available now for ~15k:

There is reference to Vredestein on this link:

Very good move considering the current circumstances. With Apollo's knowledge on Indian conditions and Vredesteins tech inputs, it will be a win-win situation. Will be trying them upon launch.

Fantastic venue in Mumbai for the launch of Apollo owned Dutch performance and designer tyre brand Vredestein in India, been a long time coming.

There is news of a 22 inch tyre as well to be launched in the coming months.

I just ordered a set of newly launched Vredestein superbike tyres for my CBR650F. Expected to come later this week. After the recent hike of tire prices, my mind was not ready to pay 54k for Rosso 4's or 45k for Angel GT2 as of now, so I thought I would give it a shot to see how these performs. A set will set me back my 27 grand, and I heard the prices might go up a bit after these introductory pricing strategy.

But yeah, for guys with supersports and purpose built machines, I would not suggest these, atleast not till some real-time user reviewes come up. For touring bikes and sport tourers alike, I believe this would offer better of both worlds at a decent price.

Centauro ST is meant for wide range of conditions and Centauro NS is meant for high performance super sport. 'L' version means heavy motorcycles and luggage carrying capability. Current MRP for ST range starts from 10,300 till 20,800.

Absolutely agree.

Any idea of which 4-wheeler sizes have been launched with 'real' availability? Apollo's website is yet to be updated as well.

Got Vredestein tyres for my Versys 650. The tyres came in a nice cardboard packing. The first time I'm seeing a tyre come in a box which makes the tyre feel more premium. I got 120/70 R17 for front and 180/55 R17 for the rear. The pattern looks grippy and is supposed to be very on wet roads. Yet to break-in the tyre. I will try and share feedback after riding a few hundred kilometres.
