Re: Why do CEAT Tyres lag behind market leaders like MRF & JK?

I have been through many tire brands and sizes in the past

1. Yoko C Drives 225/60R15, Earth 225/50R16, dBE70 215/55R17
2. Michelin (MXTE 155/80R13 , XM1 185/65R14 , Primacy ST4 215/55R17)
3. Goodyear Eagle NCT5 185/65R14
4. Bridgestone S248 165/80R13
5. Continental Contimax contact 225/60R15
6. Hankook and Bridgestone Turanza 215/60R16

but barring scooter and motorcycles, my first introduction to CEAT was when on my trip to Kota nearly 5 years ago I could not find replacement tires for my father's Santro Xing (upsized to 165/65R13). Ceat was the only option and I grudgingly purchased them expecting them to give a rock hard ride. Ceat Millaze was the model in question.

Boy what a revelation. They were much more soft and pliant compared to the Goodyear they were replacing.

Recently my accord suffered a big tire damage thanks to a large bolt. Though of taking this opportunity to replace all the Hankook Optima I had - the directional tires were a pain with the service center installing them in the opposite direction of rotation multiple times and me not noticing early enough.
Honda asked for 10k per tire (215/60R16) with Bridgestone or Goodyear as options. Meanwhile I got a diwali deal on Amazon - Ceat Securadrives for INR 5060 / piece and hence decided to take the plunge.

Heck the last Michelins (215/55R17) I bought for my Sonata cost INR 12.3k/ piece.

This deals means I can change all 4 of my tires for just 21k - equivalent to 2.7 talk-fills!

Tires look beautiful and have a good tread pattern (click on the link to check out). Lets see how they hold up ...more later

Re: Why do CEAT Tyres lag behind market leaders like MRF & JK?

This thread covers exactly the same question I was thinking about.

Looking for tyres for Kia Sonet in 215/60 R16 size, the options available in market were in range of 8k to 12k. I had already already ordered Good Years, but after fitting 2 tyres I realised the dealer is trying to cheat by installing more than 2 yrs old tyres.

Only other immediately available fresh stock tyre was Ceat Secura Drive. At 5.2k per tyre and assuring warranty policy, I thought of giving this Indian Company a fair chance.

After driving for 8500 km, I can say I am not disappointed at all. Good tread pattern, good braking performance. The comfort is on the lower side, but that primarily owing to Sonet's stiff suspension.

Long term review need to be seen. But as of now, the tyres are giving satisfactory performance and good VFM.

Update..the 215/60R16 Securadrive tires are silent, more comfortable than the hankooks and also look much better. Great value proposition for anyone willing to experiment. They are the best tires I had on my Accord (Bridgestone Turanza / Hankook Optimo were the previous tires)

I have TUV 300 that came with CEAT CZAR 215/75 R15 as OEM fitment. It has been 4.5 years and 60,000 kms so far. There have been only 2 flats (that too in same rear tyre after 50k km). Tyres ran with low noise and with good grip (except on offroad, these are H/T treads ). Even after 60k of running, they have enough tread to go for another 5k but am going to change them for same brand just for peace of mind. CEAT was something but it is something else now. Don't let the history shadow its current performance.

Re: Why do CEAT Tyres lag behind market leaders like MRF & JK?

I have a Skoda Superb with Stock Apollo Aspire 4G 215/55 R17 94W.

Was wondering about trying the CEAT Secura Drive with the same configuration. Any long term reviews for premium cars for CEAT Secura etc?
Also will a 215/60 R17 make too much of a difference?

Similarly, will a 94V vs 94W make any ride quality changes.

Thanks,

Re: Why do CEAT Tyres lag behind market leaders like MRF & JK?

The tyres on my Gypsy (215/75/R15) are due for a change and on checking for AT options, both MRF Wanderer AT and CEAT Crossdrive AT seem to be priced similarly. Any thoughts on which I should go with? My usage will mostly be on city tarmac with occassional trips off-road. Thank you in advance!

Can you please share your long term review of the CEAT Securadrive tyres? I am planning to get them installed on my Nexon (XM Petrol) as my stock tyres (Good Year Assurance Triplemax) have developed bubble (on 3 tyres). I am from Bangalore and the roads here are bad, as most of you probably already know. I need tyres that are puncture resistant, comfortable and VFM. My driving will be 50-50 between city and highways. The GY tyres are still under 5 year warranty so I've reached out to them. The assessor mentioned that I may get 25-30% rebate on the MRP but the tyres are not in stock. He is waiting for the stock for over a week now. Can you and the fellow BHPians please advise if I should just ditch the GY tyres and go with the CEAT Securadrive instead?

Also, I'm thinking of upgrading them to 205/60/R16 or even 215/60/R16. Any thoughts/advise on this?

I recommend; Yokohama Geolandar G015/G016 AT in 215/75/15.

I had earlier put Ceat Rhino 235/70-15’s on my non power steering gypsy 20 years ago but the steering is tough.

Then I used on another Gypsy some few years back 2016-2021, these Goodyear Wrangler 215/75/15 and they were good.

My present Gypsy uses new nylon cross ply F78-15 MRF Estate. It earlier had Ceat F78-15 and they werent bad either.

The actual recommended size for gypsy radials is 205/70/15.

Im using stock Ceat Czar 255/60/18 AT on my Thar and they are adequate for my use. Mostly highway and a little trail and bad roading.

A quick update. I went ahead and got CEAT Securadrive tyres installed on my car. I have a 200km trip coming up on Monday with my parents and didn’t want to risk driving on the bubbled tyres. Bought the CEAT tyres from TyresnMore.com. Costed me ₹6000 a piece. Tyremarket.com had them for ₹200-₹300 cheaper but when I spoke to them, they said I might receive 2022 or 2023 tyres and that too it may take upto 5 days. Tyresnmore got me the same tyres delivered within a day. They assured me the tyres mfg date would be within 5 months but I got July 30th manufactured tyres. They came home and installed the tyres in about an hour. It was done yesterday. I’ve driven the car for about 20-30kms since and within city. I can already notice a big difference in the ride quality. The ride feels supple and the tyre noise also has reduced a great deal. I’m really liking these tyres. I’m planning a couple of long(ish) trips in the near future. Will observe the tyres performance and write a review of them. It may be too early to say but I’m very satisfied with the tyres so far!!

I am very happy for the past 10 k kms. They are not as good as the Michelin ST4 (215/55R17) in my Fluidic Sonata but better than the hankooks and Bridgestone Turanza (all 215/60R16) I had in the accord

Thank you!! I did saw another post of yours before deciding to bite the bullet. I have now driven ~600kms with the new tyres and I second your thoughts. These tyres are really good. The ride on Tarmac feels really supple and the road noise also has reduced a great deal. However on concrete roads, it becomes very noisy and the ride also feels stiffer but it’s not a big deal. All in all, I’m pleased with the ride quality. Another thing is I upgraded from 195 section to 205 section. This has definitely impacted the pick-up at lower speeds. The car feels little more lethargic than before however at higher speeds and when you’re cornering, it feels much more stable. Never imagined 10mm extra rubber can make this much difference. I’m so damn happy with these tyres and would recommend them to anyone looking for a budget friendly option.

Hello, how are the Ceat SecuraDrive tyres performing with respect to durability and economy. Please provide an update.

Re: Why do CEAT Tyres lag behind market leaders like MRF & JK?

Hi, i am thinking of new tyres for my 2007 innova. It currently has CEAT Rhino from old owner which i guess are outdated and pretty old. I have vibrating steering over 80kmph and came down to the tyres as the steering rack feels fine and i have upgraded the suspension.

Please suggest me if I should look into CEAT options. Kelly from goodyear is the cheapest option I have with okay reviews. (Looks like kelly has low thread length according to some users)

Re: Why do CEAT Tyres lag behind market leaders like MRF & JK?

I have my Tata Nexon on CEAT Securadrive tyres for the past 3.5 years and have put about 35,000 kms on them. I have a change due once the tyres reach 45k and I will most probably be going for the same CEAT tyre again

The Nexon is our beater car and has also been on a lot of highway runs to Konkan on the dreaded NH66. The tyres have never given up on us till date, not even a puncture; and trust me, the car has been driven hard, hit sharp potholes at high speeds and been driven on non existent tarmac in monsoon.
The ride is smooth on tarmacs with good grip under sudden braking in the rain. Nothing chart topping, but can do. I think it's more silent than the Bridgestone Turanzas that the car came with but not as good as Michelin Primacy's. For me, it's works just fine.

I have done 13k kms till now (215/60R16 Secura Drive in Accord) - no drama, ride is good, not too noisy and no cuts till now. No punctures either.
Ceat warranty support is good, in my father's santro they replaced three tires under their unconditional warranty (post prorated payment) - sidewall cuts on bad roads.
