Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

thanks! after a few offline discussions with tyreboi, I've pretty much boiled down my choices to the acelere and the ZTX.

mgh, i think our speedo's are optimistic anyways, when the speedo shows 60kmph, my phone gps shows 54, so i think there is a +10% error anyway.

Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

Finally decided to fix my suspension and settled on the acelere. Bought 5x 175/65 R14 aceleres for 19500.
unfortunately it turns out three of my 5 rims are damaged, and new ones are needed. So two of my front tyres are running with tubes. Since the suspension was also fixed, I'm not entirely sure about the difference in ride comfort due to the tyre alone. however the grip is amazing

to make things worse, the car swerves to the left while braking hard. Should i bug the tyre shop, or go to the service center?

Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

Change the rims and get wheel balancing done. If it still veers to the left while braking hard, get the brakes checked and the service centre.

Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

am having difficulty sourcing new rims. A scrap guy has a couple of indigo rims and is offering both of them for 1k. There is a fair amount of rust on them, but there are no bends. The tyre shop guy said it wouldnt fit after seeing them and sent them back, but am not sure why. Theoretically they should have fit....right ?
Should I take them or stick with my damaged rims + tubes till chennai and try my luck there ?

Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

Just walk into a Tata service centre's spare parts division and buy 4 new rims. Will be brand new with ZERO rust. I think it costs around 700/- per rim.

Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

900 per rim? Still a fair deal. Now all problems are gone right?

I changed my rims 8 months ago at the tyre shop (over the years, the rims became more malleable, bending at every pothole).
I was shown 2 qualities. The one with higher cost (900) was recommended (it was thicker - taxi class I guess). I changed all 5 rims.

With 3 new rims & 1 old one, do you feel the need to change the old one ? I just took a conscious decision to change all.

Indica V2 DLS : Feb 2003 : 101180 kms

Were they both Tata Original parts?

If i need to, will do so at chennai. If i can afford to then, perhaps even alloys. But right now my finances are tight, so made do with the minimum amount.

Though the the ones I bought came in the blue tata boxes, I do not know for sure.
But after 4 yrs with the same tyre shop(wheel alignment every 5K + after every highway trip), I just took the shop owner's word since he procured them from a parts shop (he was not stocking them).

Hi, I have been quoted Rs900 for a heavy duty rim. I think it could be same as yours. Have to check them tomorrow.

Indica Xeta 13'' OEM rim cost Rs780 in Concorde chennai.

What is ur experience with this taxi class rim ?

Re: Tyre upsize for Indica Turbo V2

I recommend them. They have withstood bigger potholes. (Only a new car is going to change in my driving style.)

Is there any impact on handling or mileage during to extra weight ?

None that is clearly attributable.
Mileage is a tad lesser by .5 kmpl(car is getting older+engine oil leakage, etc?).
Handling is better (probably due to the new set of tyres?)

They do not scrap the inner walls and given some sane rev-happy driving, they gel well with the stock steel rims as well.

Cheers
Im replacing my stock tires after 35 K on Turbo DLX with 185/60/ R14 Michelin XM2. request advice on the right tyre pressure...28/24 psi seems too less.
