The tyres don't have flat spots or weathering cracks. So, I plan to use them for some time before replacing.

On the puncture check, have to go to a Hyundai authorized SS in a week to get general servicing done (part of Spinny's warranty conditions). Was planning to get it checked there. Do these guys also try to 'discover' punctures and sell new tyres?
Honestly, most car service workshops are not trained or equipped to identify and fix punctures. Most of them have tie ups with nearby puncture shops/tyre shops to get them fixed. I suggest you stick to MRF T&S for the puncture check.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi guys, got the Nios turbo yesterday. I feel the tyres are too thin and want to upgrade keeping the stock R15 rims.
Stock size = R15 175/60
Upgrade options = 195/55 and 185/60
After a bit of research I found that it's very likely that the 195s will rub with the sidewall. So, 185s wd be the right choice. But, the problem is that premium tyres start with the 195 tread size so I prefer 195/55 R15 + I don't want the 60 aspect ratio that'll come with the 185s (rides already too soft).
So, has anyone tried the 195/55 R15 size ?
The only option with the 185/60 seems to be yhe continental CC6.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi all,

I have a February 2018 Grand i10 Sportz which has covered 39k km on stock tyres. I believe that the time to swap all the tyres is due in a few months, at max. I'm considering upgrading my default tyre setup (165/65/R14) to (185/60/R14).

What can I expect from this tyre upsize? Will it cause more wear and tear in suspension, and cause mileage issues? I do a lot of highway runs and therefore Im strongly considering to go for the upsize.

Also, is Michelin energy XM2 plus a good option? What other options can I look for? Please guide me, thanks!

Going from a 165-section tyre to a 185-section tyre on the stock 5J rim is not recommended, you'll have to give more steering input at lower speeds due to broader tyres and you'll see a drop in mileage for sure.

I'll recommend you go for a 175/65R14, there will be only a 2.27% difference in the overall circumference and also an increase in ground clearance of the car.

XM2+ is a good entry-level tyre from Michelin, there are also several other options available in the 175-section size for ex - Continental UC6 & CC6, Yokohama earth-1, Bridgestone recently launched a new range of tyres by the name of "Sturdo".

I have been getting 110-115k km tyre life out of several pairs of XM2 over the years.

I would be expecting the present pair(s) of XM2+ to perform the same.

Word of caution - I doubt if you’ll get 100k km on Michelin XM2+ in India. I agree with NA Driver that 175/65R14 is the more suitable size, I suggest you go for Conti UC6s or Bridgestone B250s, they will offer a good balance of life, traction and comfort. MRF ZVTV will be better among the more cost effective options.

If ground clearance doesn't make much difference to me, then does it make sense to go for 185/60/R14? You're right about the difference being 2.27% in the overall circumference, but with 185/60/R14 the difference is 1.32%, which I prefer, since I get less error and more grip on the ground. Is it a wrong mindset to have?

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Tyre upsize is not just about the difference in the overall circumference of a tyre whether it's 2% or less, several other factors play a major role when changing tyre size.
Automobile companies spend countless hours (not to forget the cost) in R&D of the suspension geometry of a car, one can only change it a little bit without changing the whole driving dynamics of the car & without damaging the suspension components.

In your case, 175/65/R14 is more suitable just like what RubberGuru1113 said. A 185-section tyre is a little too much for a stock 5j rim, you may face rubbing issues on the full steering lock and also in the case of a boot full of luggage with rear passengers while going over a pothole.

Also, a 185-section tyre is heavier than both 175 & 165 section tyres, you'll not only see a drop in mileage but you'll also feel the difference in performance mainly while overtaking on the highway, especially if you have a petrol grand i10.

Hi, again NA Driver was spot on when they mentioned that a 185 section width would compromise on fuel efficiency slightly and will have a slightly heavier steering feel compared to your current setup.

On top of that I’ll add that 185/60R14 is an odd size, which means you won’t find many of the better tyres in the market (Conti UC6, Yoko BluEarth) on this size. You’ll only have options like the Earth1 and SDrive from Yokohama. UC6 is available on 175/65R14 which I will recommend over these and Michelin XM2+

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Greetings to all
I own a 2018 Grand i10 Magna.
Currently car has run 51k kms on the stock setup of 165/65.
Now I want to change the tyres of the car. The car is used primarily for city driving of 15-20 kms daily by my dad and very seldom highway drives.
So should I stick with stock size or upgrade to 165/70 or 175/65?
Primary requirements are good comfort and fuel efficiency. Also stock ground clearance is satisfactory.
Tyre brand suggestions are also welcome.

Speedometer error is a little bit less if you choose 175/65 R14. However, they are more expensive. As majority of your running is inside the city, you should go for 165/70 R14. Tyres will be cheaper and ground clearance will also increase.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hello, I own a 2018 Grand i10 Sportz, and it has ran over 44.5k km with the stock wheels. I want to stick to 165/65R14 (stock size) only.

I wasn't very happy with the stock Goodyear tyres. After researching online I feel like Bridgestone Sturdo will suit my purpose. Can someone confirm if Sturdo is a good purchase?

Can someone also suggest a great place with competitive prices to purchase these tyres from in Delhi NCR, preferably someone you've dealt with before.

Is there any buyback of old wheels? Or they're a complete waste? I'm looking to change all 5 of my tyres.

Sorry for double posting, I would've PM'ed you to ask for your suggestion. But unfortunately that feature isn't enabled for me right now.

I'm planning to go with 165/70R14 Continental CC6 looking mainly for comfort. Is this is a smart decision over 165/65R14? Is it going to be detrimental on the suspension setup or steering wheel? Thanks for your input.

Re: Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

My 2017 Grandi10 AT was due for a tyre change. The OEM Apollos had done only about 10k kms till now but the rubber, very evidently, had aged and hardened. I did not want to take a risk with aged tyres even though this car only operates with city confines as a daily runabout. The OEM tyres, though very decent, had started making the ride jarring and the grip had started to suffer.

My requirements were less noise, comfort and good grip in dry and wet (Mumbai monsoons are nasty). I was not too bothered about tyre life.

Michelin had 0 options in this size and my preferred Conti UC6 did not have stocks in 165/65 or 175/65 either. BS Sturdo, Apollo Amazer XP and Yoko Earth 1 were considered but rejected in favour of the more comfort oriented Continental CC6.

I also upsized to 175/65-14 from the stock size in favour of better grip even though 165/70-14 were substantially cheaper.

My initial drive impressions on the CC6 are as below:

Noise - The CC6 are QUIET. Period. This probably is their USP and they completely ace it. You will struggle to listen to any tyre noise at all no matter what speeds you’re doing. And No, its not placebo vs the aged OEM tyres they replaced.

Comfort - The tyres have made the ride quality supple and plush. You do not notice expansion joints or small road imperfections as jarringly as you would expect. The stock Apollos weren't bad but the CC6 do have an edge here. Is it night & day? No. Maybe I need to play around with the pressure to find a sweeter spot. I am currently running 32 Psi cold. Suggestions?

Grip - New and broader rubber so it does feel nice & grippier and has added some heft to the steering. Very marginal improvement in braking and I am looking forward to see how these fare on water soaked mumbai roads. I have not bothered (nor will) to see if there is an impact on fuel efficiency, the Gi10 AT anyways is ridiculous on that front.

Looks - average external looks bordering on boring. The Earth 1 look fancier in my opinion. The broader profile does fit the tyrewell better and the overall stance of the car looks nicer.

Overall I paid approx 21k for four tyres and valves with all services and rebates accounted for. Work was done by the good chaps at Bombay Tyres, Santacruz, Mumbai

Continental does have UC6s in the 175/65 R14 size. I picked up a set of 4 UC6s a couple of months ago for my 2016 Gi10. Those are great tyres with excellent grip and a silent ride.
