Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Please advise if we can go for broader tyres over the 185/65R15 stock tyres that come with Maruti Ertiga. We are awaiting delivery of ZDI, and would like to know if 195 or 205 would be a safe fit with stock alloys.

IMHO,205 will be overkill for this car, given that it has only 90horses and will be loaded with the passengers at all times.

195/60/R15 should be good.

The SX4 also has 90 horses and the ZDi comes with 205/R16 rubber. If the 195 does well on the Swift, the 205 should do nicely on the Ertiga considering the additional weight and horses. I have not checked the tyre calculator to see if 205/60 (or 55)/R16 is the correct upsize for Ertiga.

re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

195/60-15 and 205/60-15 are good upsizes for the Ertiga. 195/60-15 has a smaller overall diameter and will reduce the ride height marginally. 205/60-15 will fill the wheel area nicely and will also raise the height marginally.

Only thing one needs to take car of with 205/60-15 is if the rear tyre touches the body on full load. This can be due to wrong offset alloys or just the fact that 205 is too wide for Ertiga. Please check this out before buying.

xotiq,

how many people would sit in the car, most of the time ? 4 or complete 7 ?

Quoting from the official review,

Quote:
The Ertiga feels very sprightly in the 2,000 - 3,000 rpm range and, depending on the speed, you could use 2nd or 3rd gear like an automatic in the city. The 4th & 5th gears have taller ratios for highway driving. Where the Innova feels noisy & strained above 100 kph, the Ertiga's 1.3L diesel is lazily spinning over at 2,600 rpm @ 120 kph. Even when you need to overtake a slow moving truck at 80 - 90 kph, a downshift is seldom required. Unless of course, you are carrying a full load of passengers. In terms of outright acceleration, the Ertiga feels similar to the Swift.
I am only worried, if the above said drive/feel would be lost with 205.

Max 2 adults + baby or the occasional 5 pax (4 adults+ baby). I am worried if the 205 section would foul with vehicle clearance during turns etc.

Also any idea about the cost? (exchange price for stock 185 and price for new 205 tyres)

I have upgraded to 205/60 R-15 Yokohama A Drive on my Ertiga ZDI. I checked the tyre calculator. The increase in diameter is 3mm and overall increase is also well within 2% limit.

I have driven from Delhi to Shimla yesterday with full load - 5 adults (3 Males all 6ft and 2 average females), one kid and luggage. There is absolutely no issue with the tyre touching wheel-well or otherwise. In fact I'm I'm Shimla right joe and writing the post from my hotel (Himland).

Overall grip has increased and the braking has also improved. The ride seems more pliant now and handling inspires confidence. I'm very satisfied with this upsize till now. Looks of the car, while subjective, seems to have improved as per me and few of my friends.

I got this done from Reliance Autozone (Ambience Mall Gurgaon) on Tuesday (after taking delivery on Sunday, 20th May). He agreed to trade-in my MRFs for Rs 3500 each. Yokohama A Drive 205/60 R-15 costs Rs 5900 each, so I had to pay Rs 2400 per tyre extra.

Here is a comparo of the suggested sizes. They are well within acceptable limits.

re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I am looking to upsize the MRF tyres from my brand new Ertiga ZDi (60KM on the odo) with yoko A drive size 195. The dealer is offering me Rs 2500 per tyre for MRF. Is this a good price? Yoko A drive 195 60 R 15 costs Rs 5100. Experts Please let me know if Rs 2500 is a good price for my MRF.

Reliance Autozone is offering Rs 3000 per Tyre. So am looking at trading at Reliance Autozone.

Xotiq, 195 65 R 15 is a different upsize. Could you tell me if there is any change in GC because of this?

re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Upgraded my tyres to 195/60/R15 Michelin Primacy LC. Got a good deal (So I think) from Reliance Autozone Ambience Mall Gurgaon (Sudhir used your reference here. Thanks for the information provided). Got Rs 3100 for each of the 4 tyres and Rs 3500 for the Spare Tyre. The cost of the Primacy Rs 5800. Overall incremental money spent Rs 13100. The ride has improved marginally while the handling has really improved. I feel the steering feedback and the braking seem to have a perceptible improvement. My colleague who was with me felt a noticeable improvement in the overall ride quality though. I will post detailed pictures soon along with my review.
