Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

My ertiga 2017 version has done 88k on the company fitted JK tyres. Now it has started to show it's age and thinking to replace it soon. Any latest suggestions as I see this thread is quite old replys.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

For new Ertiga Zxi+, tire upgrade from 185/65 R15 to 205/65 R15 is recommended? Will it cause any negative impact on performance or mileage or anything else?

Also please suggest best suitable options. How about Ceat? I heard they last really long, for about 70-80 K.

205/65R15 is Innova's size. While it won't touch your wheel arch(have checked ), you will get too much speedo and odo error. Also wheel's weight will increase a lot and may cause accelerated wear and tear of steering/driveshaft components.

My personal advice would be to go with 195/65R15. That's the same size I have on my XL6 and is more than adequate for our cars TBH.

Shashi

Why it will cause speedo and odo error? 195 and 205 don't have vast difference, so not sure.

Has anyone updated here with 205/65 R15? Any such problems faced?

Guess this explains everything :

185/65R15 is the stock size hence comparing against that.

Thats correct!

If you want the least variation on ODO, you should upsize to 205/60 R15. There are limited brands offering this spec, otherwise, follow Leoshashi's advice.

There will be a slight drop in mileage too.

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I should be getting delivery of my XL6 in a few days. Posting here since it doesn't make sense to create a new thread for a vehicle that is merely cosmetically different from the Ertiga.

The XL6 comes with Bridgestones in 185/65 R15 size. From what I read here on the thread, 195/65 R15 or 205/60 R15 will be good upgrades. But, the former might be better due to the lack of serious power in the petrol engine.

I have the following questions.

1. Which tyres should I opt for in terms of brand and variant?

2. How much will I get as buyback for the OEM tyres if I drive to the tyre shop immediately after delivery?

3. Will this void my warranty? Should I stick to the original size?

4. Any recommendations for a good tyre shop in the Thane area? Pal Tyres on Lamington Road is too far for me and plus, it's essentially inaccessible due to the monorail work going on.

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Quick update on tyre upgrade done yesterday.

Ertiga ZXI+ Type 2 (2016)
Stock tyre: MRF ZVTV 185/65/15 (run 30,000 kms)
Reason for change: Though it had less mileage, due to 5 yrs the tyres had formed cracks. Rubber had become hard giving a bumpy ride.

My need: Smooth comfortable ride with less noise. High mileage was not a need. Also wanted to upgrade to 195/65/15 for better grip.

Shortlisted:
1. Yokohama Blue Earth Grand Touring AE51
2. Bridgestone Ecopia EP150
~Micheline XM2+ was not shortlisted due to stock shortage and import uncertainty

Went with Yokohama as rubber compound is softer than Bridgestone (based on tyre shop owner's advice). Also, Yokos were 300 Rs. cheaper per piece. Yoko's tread pattern (better than Bridgestone) would hopefully have less stones stuck in the tyre.

Overall observations after doing a short drive.
1. Very Silent
2. The bumpy ride has completely gone
3. Extra 10 mm width looks nice on Ertiga

Can someone please confirm how much PSI should be filled?
Earlier I used to keep 30 PSI in all tyres as mostly the car would have max 2 or 3 folks.

Keep the same PSI, I too have same size on my XL6 and keep 29/30 PSI normally.

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

My ertiga 2016 vxi needs a tyre upgrade and I have some doubts about it. I went through this and other multiple threads.

1. Michelin seems to have stopped importing 195mm wide tyres making it a ruled out option in case I want to upsize. Is it true? I called Tyre Empire shop and got this info.

2. What is the best upsize 195/60 R15 or 195/65 R15 for Ertiga? Again called SA at Maruti service and he asked to remain with stock size. Michelins are available and still imported with stock 185/65 R15

3. In case I decide to upgrade to 195mm, Yokohama seems a good choice based on this thread. Any recommended shop in Bangalore?

Personally I am willing to upsize but non availability of Michelins at 195mm might make things complex. I saw upsizing to Michelins actually improved or had maintained the mileage on my old Estilo and Santro. If Michelins are not available, what is the best alternative?

If it helps, I upgraded the stock Bridgestones on my XL6 to Yoko AE-51 195/65 R15s. That's the Blue Earth GT range. The ride has become really smooth now and potholes are disposed off with ease. Ride height is also slightly increased. Suspension warranty will be shot, though.

Can't comment on FE since I upgraded straight out of the showroom. Here's a few pics of the upgraded tyres on my car.

Leo, since you have the same tyre size as mine, what pressure do you keep when your car is fully loaded with 6/7 passengers? I am going on a family trip tomorrow and need to raise the rear tyre pressure at my friendly local Shell station where I always get my tyre pressures checked.

Congratulations on your car.

I keep the same PSI as recommended by MSIL. So for fully loaded condition, I believe it is 32 Front and 38 Rear.

I was in a similar doubt and had approached Michelin too, they too opined that the upgrade over stock is a minor one, and thus it's best to stick to manufacturer recommendations.

Shashi

Recently completed two trips and got a chance to test the new Yokos on long distance. First trip was approx. 800+ kms (Pune to Jalgaon & back). The road was mix of;
1. Four lane regular tarmac
2. Broken highway with potholes (between A'nagar to Aurangabad)
3. No road (between Aurangabad-Fulambri-Sillod)
4. Newly constructed concrete highway

Seconds trip was on Pune-Mumbai expressway.

Here are my observations:
1. The tyre noise is very low as compared to MRF. Even on concrete road the noise was within acceptable range (it's subjective)
2. Excellent grip. Had few moments where the road suddenly disappeared and had to brake hard (from 80 kmph to 10 kmph). Car behaved perfectly.
3. Less vibrations entering cabin. Even my family shared this feedback.
4. Less stones getting stuck in tyre tread. Few road patches were extremely bad rather there was no road at all. I don't like stones getting stuck in tyre and then making tik-tik noise while driving on tarmac

Let me know queries if any. Cheers.

Tread Pattern of the Yokos

Re: Maruti Ertiga : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Dear all,

Need advice on possible upgrades to my Ertiga to improve ride quality. I have a 2013 ZXI with 65K and thankfully no history of any major issues. Servicing done with Maruti dealer except the last one which was at a local mechanic (so called reliable). Changed tyres in Aug 2021 to Michelin XM+, which has improved ride quality to an extent, but still experience the below issues:
1. Ride is too firm. When going over speed breakers, the car comes down firmly. There is no noise or thud but I feel the impact on the back. Have to really slow down even for the tiny plastic speed bumps. Air is usually filled to 35 but even 32-33 doesn't make much difference.
2. Overall, I feel the road too much. I have done a few Hyd-Blr trips and the 8-9 hour drive feels tiring even though I rarely exceed 100kmph and am not in a rush to overtake other vehicles. Seems like the car passes on a lot of vibration to the driver/passengers. (In contrast, I drove Blr-Mysore in the New Santro and it felt so much comfortable. Also drove Kia Sonet from Chennai to Mahabalipuram. Felt like I could have driven either of those cars for another 3-4 hours and not felt tired.)
3. Road/engine noise is horrible past 80kpmh...maybe this adds to the weariness? I don't think there is any solution here. I read about damping options on the forums here but it doesn't seem to help much. Is damping recommended?

For #1 and #2, is there any recommended suspension change or upgrade that will help? On the last service, the technician said the clutch might require replacement soon but suggested I keep using it until it interferes with driving - which it doesn't, but could a worn out clutch result in vibrations?

regards,
Paddy

Around this time your front suspension \ struts would need replacement, rear end may still be okay. Engine vibrations can be due to clutch \ flywheel \ hydraulic engine mount. Get it the vehicle evaluated by a Maruti ASC for a complete diagnosis.
