Guys, have booked the Sunny Diesel XL and am expecting delivery soon.

The car comes with 185/70 R14 and I want to upgrade to 15" Alloys + Better Rubber.

1) What is the correct size? The car come with 185/70 R14 in XL guise and with 185/65 R15. According to my calculations, 185/70 R 14 is 615 mm Tyre Diameter and 185/65 R 15 is 622 mm.

2) I want to put atleast 205/60 R 15 (Dia 627 mm). I think wider tyres would improve the stance and looks of the car. Any foreseeable problems in the same?

3) What brands of tyres would be recommended in this size? I need tough tires, since the road conditions the car will encounter will be pretty bad. I am currently using Michelin XM1+ and I am happy with them.

4) In any further increase in tire diameter feasible? (To gain a little for ground clearance??)

Here you go. 205/60 R15 is the right upsize. You've got many option with the rubber in this size.



215 is also an option but I doubt if there are any options in 215 section rubber.

I would suggest XM1+ . Tried and tested. They do justice to the price you pay for. And yeah, you are paying a lil for the brand name too. :D

You also have an option of PP2 and primary LC depending on your budget and purpose.

205/60-15 might foul with the wheel arches. Thw Swift also comes with 185/70-14 (on the Zdi and ZXi models).

Go through the Swift thread. All the tyre sizes trhat fit on the Swift will be perfect for the Sunny as well.

195/60-15 is the best, followed by 205/55-15.

Nikhil ... the top model comes with 185/65 R 15. 205/60 R 15 will be only 5 mm difference in diameter. Diameter Difference: 0.9%. Can it still foul with such a small difference? Or will the width be the problem?

205/55-15 will reduce the GC of the car. The overall diameter is reduced by 8mm.

It could. I've seen Swifts with 205/60-15 having problems. Of course, you MAY not have any problems either!

I am aware that 205/55-15 will reduce the GC of your car. But if you want a very wiude patch, that's your best bet.

Otherwise, I suggest 195/60-15. Good size, good enough contact patch, good ride comfort and GC. Lots of options available. Almost nothing in 205/60-15.

Width is definitely the issue Nikhil was talking about. Check out the car in the showroom and then see if 205 or even 215 will fit.

If you want to increase GC, the bigger tyre will do the job.

Merely 85 BHP, with typical family-car performance on tap. Why bother with 205s? Remember, going with oversize tyres can actually slow your car down.

I think 185 / 195 is just perfect for the Sunny diesel. Fully agreed with Nikhil here:

Today only I spotted a white seen in my office parking lot, I think it was a top of the line model as it had alloys but I must say the car looks very under wheeled/tyred. I feel that wider rubber will enhance the looks of this otherwise generic looking car.

Even I will second Nikhil, 195/60 R 15 would be your best bet as there are numerous options available in this size and you can opt for one based on your driving style and usage.

I fully agree. Good 185 mm rubber is good enough to manage atleast 20% more powers.

But I want to change simply for the looks factor. I feel slightly larger and wider rubber will really improve the looks and stance of the car.

My thoughts exactly. A picture says more than a thousand words...

I am actually tempted to upsize the rim size to 16/17.. but am scared I will spoil the ride/comfort factor of the car.

Looks neat like the OEM one, if that's what was intended, well & good. else you might have to look for other options to make it look different.

Also, can you please share the rest of the details like OTR and how does the car feel after tyre upgrade?
