Re: Hyundai i10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade Thread

I am looking to replace Grand i10 Hyundai tyres after 40,000 km.

The stock tyre profile is Goodyear 165/65/R14/79H

The Goodyear tyres do cause lot of noise in the cabin though. The car is mostly used for city and highway driving 95% of the time.

Budget:3.5-5k/tyre

Please suggest suitable ones.

Thank you

Hi,

Instead of going with the stock tyre size you can upsize the tyres to 165/70R14.
In this size, tyres are better priced when compared to the stock size and you'll gain a few mm of ground clearance with this upsized tyre.

In your budget there are many good options available, you go with - Michelin XM2, Continental cc6, Yokohama Earth-1, MRF ZLX.

Re: Hyundai i10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Are there any downsides to aspect ratio increase from 65 to 70?

When I changed the tyres of my car, most of the tyre dealers recommended going with 165/70 R14 only. They mentioned that most Grand i10 buyers opt for it. I don't think it will have any impact as the difference is not that big.

Slightly compromised handling due to taller sidewalls, no other drawbacks. IMO 175/65 or 185/60 will be a better upsize than 165/70 for a good balance of grip, handling and comfort. The Grand i10 is soft and comfy in stock form itself, so I don't think it's worth to go for really tall sidewalls at the risk of scraping fenders on full load.

Also, there is a dedicated thread for Grand i10 tyre upgrade on the forum. You will find more recent and valuable experiences there from users/owners themselves.

Ultimately, your choice will depend on the availability of sizes and stock at your local tyre dealer, but NA-driver has suggested some good options to choose from.

A 185-section tyre is just too wide for the stock steel rim which is just 5 inches wide, after getting 185-section tyres fitted on the stock rims it'll result in hard steering at low speeds.

In 175/65r14 size there aren't any good tyres available in the given budget of 3.5k - 5k.

P.S. - There are more chances of a drop in fuel economy with wider section tyres.

Re: Hyundai i10 : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Did speak to Goodyear, Apollo, Bridgestone and there are slim pickings for sure. Sturdo seems fine, is it good for wet roads as well? Even called the Hyundai service dealer and in the case of Apollo 4g life, they were quoting 1k per tyre more than the MRP on Apollo tyres website itself.

I would suggest getting it done from an authorized tyre dealer rather than a service center. In my opinion, Bridgestone Sturdo is a good pick.

Bridgestone Sturdo is marketed as a tyre with a 29% longer life, usually the long-life tyres have less silica in the compound composition. If the annual running isn't high it's better to go with a tyre with more silica for ex - Michelin XM2 & Continental CC6.

P.S. - A tyre with higher silica will be less noisy and will not easily get hard as time goes by which results in dry rot.

What is a dry rot? I am assuming they will last at least 40,000 kms..

The rubber compound within the tyre breaks down as time goes by which results in the formation of cracks within the tyre, it usually starts to happen after 4-5 years from the date of manufacturing of the tyre.

I was running on a set of Michelin P3ST manufactured in October 2018, it started dry rotting in 2022.
