He's probably not lying, just ignorant! Or maybe he doesn't have 15" rims and tires in stock. Anyway, the dealer is not the best place to buy tires and rims from, go to an outside tire shop for the best deal.

On the contrary, he should have been more happy to give you 195/60 on 15" wheels instead of 14". Bigger the wheel, larger the rolling circumference and larger the rolling circumference, the better it'l ride over broken surfaces and potholes.

Ofcourse 185/70 R14 is anyday more comfortable but, 195/60 R15 aint bad too. I'd rather have a mixture of ride and handling than have a tyre that'll only give me comfort and no handling at all.

Guys I finally bought the tyres today. GIII Potenza for exchange of my old tyres, the Potenzas are 185/70/14. The dealer wanted to sell 195/65/15 and other sizes, as the Potenzas dont come in 195/60/15. So unfortunately I had to go with 185/70/14 for 7700 Rs in exchange of my old tyres. Than I also got EVG alloys 14" for 16k. Car looks really good, but I was having problems with my left front wheel making a "chick chick chick" sound once I was going over 60 kmph.... is this normal??? Please let me know what could be causing this. They did the wheel balancing but not the wheel allignment.... Any help is appreciated. I will post the pics tommorow, 15" would have been deadly in looks, but I guess one cant get everything. I am getting a good quality ride and I am fine. The Potenzas are really great.
Pictures will be posted tommorow.... looking forward for your answers.

The GIIIs pretty much come in 195/60 R15. Maybe the dealer didn't have them.

The first thing you need to do is check for small pebbles/stones stuck in the grooves. If there are no stones and you still hear the sound, take it to the dealer "asap".

For bridgestone potenza g3, 5 tyre exchange with bill will cost you 8k. General rule of thumb being get 1500 to 1600 for your old tyre, potenzas cost 3200 per tyre, other good year options begin at 2k and go all the way upto 2.7k for good year eagles.

Alloys for Swift?

Hi Aseem,

I read your mail on the choice of alloys for Swift.
I have booked Swift (VXI ABS) & will be deilvered by this weekend.
Pls do suggest me what alloys I would go for. As I am zeroing in on LG 110. I am planning for 185/65/14. I am also bit confused with the tyres G3's or Good year or Yokohama.

Pls do help me in finding out, Also any good dealers around B'lore.

Thanks & Regards,
Pradeep

Raps 185/65 is not the correct size for swift. Go for 195/60/15 or 185/70/14. I have personally gone for HR alloys however LG are good as well.
Arush, I will post pics of the alloys once I get the bluetooth dongle for my PC.

Offest for Swift?

Hi Guys,

I am getting Swift delivered today.
Last weekend I was looking for Alloys in 14" & 15".
I have decided to go for 15", 185/65/15 G3's. But in blore this is not available. But the tyre delear is suggesting me to go for either 205 or 195/60/15, but the offset specified on the alloys 7J, but the swift manuals says 6.5

I am bit confused whether should I go for 15" with offset 7J. Is this OK or do I need to pull back to 14", 185/70/14.

Please do suggest me. Planning to get these done by this weekend.

Cheers,
Pradeep

Please help me in deciding whether if i should go for Tyre/alloys upgrade from the dealer or from Outside market for Swift VXi ABS? I'm ignorant about all the techi specs but yeah for sure...i wanna my car look stunning and good performer...
Any advice would be helpful....
Here are few basic questions:-
1.Which is the best spec in upgradation/modification w.r.t Comfort/safety and Performance?
2.How much would be the Price difference for the Alloys and Tyres?
3.Whether should i go with the dealer for the mod or out in the Market?
4.How much effectively i would be end up paying in the bangalore market?
5.Any pointers/references are appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Praful

@Raps - Dude 7J is not the offset. It is the width of the rim at the place where the tyre wall sits. You can easily go in for 7J without anyproblem I have 15" 7J rims on my swift with 205-55/R15 tyres. 55 profile is good but it is a little harsh on bad roads. So I recommend you either go in for 205-60/R15 or 195-60/R15. Anything with 60 profile is good for indian road conditions.

@Prao - Dont even think about exchanging your tyres witht he dealer. Go out into the market. You will get much better options and much better prices. As far as your other queries are concerend I think they have all been answered in this thread. Read this thread completely.

195/50 R16.5

Hey...just checking up on rims and tyres for me Zxi.... i want to change the rims ONLY to make the car look nicer....seen pleanty of swifts around blore and really like a couple of their rims...though i have just a couple of doubts....
1). R16.5 rims....are they available around bangalore... till date ive come upo only whole number (14,15,16,17...) never a 16.5
2). would the above tyres fit on a swift without them hitting the sides on turns and stuff?
3). I understand this would ruin my ride a whole lot and make it extrmely bumpy.... but would it really make it unbearably bumpy???
4). How much would it affect my ride height???

The odo error i get with this selection as compared to the normal 185/70 R14's that come with the swift is .08%.

Also anyone have any idea where i can get good 4 spoke rims in bangalore in the price range of about 15k-20k? or rather...would i get anything presentable in that much??? p

Thanks!
