Hi epic , Well i to was tempting 2 go in 16"inch lenso samurai series , but than had to change my mind and go in for 195/60/15 yokos A-drive because i was also told the same that ride would be a bit harsh, believe me i too was tempting to for yoko s-drives looking at the tread pattern but you get S-Drives in 195/55/15 /205/50/15 ,so i opted for 195/60/15 yokos A-drive with lenso samurai series for my Swift Vdi, and the ride ,handling, comfort is awesome !!

Hi manu7781 , Goodyear eagle f1 are available in india for a long time, it has good tread pattern but it gives humming sound while driving it, i had these tires in my OHC some time back but the noise was annoying that after i had driven 10000kms i again had to go in for a tyre change and had opted for The michelin certis which were comfort tires available that time i think you can get tires for swift !

I was contemplating on changing the wheels to 16" X 7 Lenso SHU shod with Yokohama S-Drives/Michelin PP2s of size 205/50/R16. However, Saifee the tyre dealer has advised against it as he claims i may not be happy with the ride quality and may regret the same. Please let me know if the ride is gonna be affected that badly on the 16"
Fellow member Hydrashok is running 205/50 R16's on Lenso's and I had drivne that car for a short period last year. The ride is not bad at all considering the low profile. As long as you're careful it won't be too bad. But do remember there will be a mrked deterioration in ride compared to stock or 195/60, it is not going to feel like a comfy sofa!

No Manu, they are not available in India. And as for your earlier query, there are loads of members running 195/60 R15 on their Swift's and there has been no complaint with this upsize till date. And I don't think there are any tyres in 195/55 R16 available officially in India.

Thanks for your reply.. I really dont know much about different tyres and alloys since this will be mine first encounter with after market shoes for my car. All my other cars are running the stock setup.

Based on few things that I gathered from the tyres and alloy section I decided the tyre size. But thanks for clearing my doubts about what officially is avilable in India and letting me know that there is no such size as 195/55 R16.

Can you or anyone suggest me what I can get in 16" size that will be close to OD of original setup. I am sticking will 16" coz I dont want to go too low profile with the setup (vitamin M will be another problem).

My budget is 25k - 30k.

Help me guys..

Michelins in that size are nice.
and the sidewall height difference, which is a major determinant of ride comfort, between the 165 on stock rims and 185 on stock rims is nil isnt it?
so, when you get a wider contact patch for the same sidewll height, wouldnt you rather take that? maybe I'm wrong
Yes ripper you are right. Its me.
I always felt a little harsh ride in the back seats in our roads with the Potenza GIIIs. Even with a pressure of 28psi, it is like that. Recently I happened to drive a VDi with stock tyres, felt the ride better with the MRF ZV2Ks with the recommended pressure 36psi in front and 33psi in back. Just thought of, trying the bought back stock MRF ZV2Ks from the tyre dealer this time. It costed 1200 per tyre only. And in my opinion I feel more ride comfort. I don't know about the difference in side wall and all, it may be nil, may be even psychological, but I feel more softer ride even in the drivers seat. And added to it, even some rattles has come down. I am keeping 30 psi all round right now.
Usually I dont go above 80 kmph, so until now I have not faced any fish tailing while braking. Also I am used to the pumping while braking from my old Indica days, so may be thats why, the fish tailing not happening. This is just my experience and opinion, may be wrong, but lets see how it goes.

Compared to the Potenza G3, the ride on the MRFs may be better. Not sure though. For the driving you describe, I suppose stock tyres make sense.
BTW- Isnt 30 Psi too less for the stock tyres?

Hi Guys

I have a 2006 Red Swift running on stock rims and tires. I am planning to upgrade it to alloy wheels either 15" or 16". Still contemplating on whether to compromise a bit on the ride quality or not. I had a couple of questions regarding this upgrade.

1) Is it possible to fit 195 profile tires on 16" wheels?
2) Any advice on where in Banagalore will I get the best deal.

Regards

@manu7781, for 16" alloys, the best tyre-size would be 205/50 R16. You get Yoko S-Drives in that size: I paid 5800/- per tyre (for 4 205/50 R16 tyres) in April 2008.

As Ishan said, the ride quality with 16" wheels and 50 profile tyres is not bad at all. I run the tyres at 30psi and have no issues with the ride. My parents ride in the back seat from time to time (city and highway drives) and they haven't complained yet either.

Hi Hydrashock,

In which part of the country are you based? The reason i am skeptical about the 16" and 50 profile is because i ambased in Mumbai and the roads here are nothing to talk about. I am sure the roads you are driving on are way bettr and smoother. I like your wheels and i am looking at the 16" Lenso SHUs for my Swift. I am again skeptical about the design the SHUs have as it may be a task to keep them clean.

205/55 is a good size, we'd fitted the same size on to the JBL Swift's & they've toured all over India without any issues.

I have had 205 55 R15 S-Drives running on my swift for a while now, trust me the car has been through some of the worst roads and many times no roads at all. No issues at all.

Hi Raghava & Anshurao,

Ive noticed that both of you have mentioned the 205/55/R15 size but none have mentioned about the 205/50/R16 size.

Ive just got one question which will be the deciding factor for me.

I drive on Mumbai roads. Should i stick to 205/55/R15 OR upgrade to 205/50/R16?
