Super Fast trip to Sangla and Chitkul

I was quite for some long time, for many reasons, and then got multiple reasons for this super fast trip. Job Change, Long weekend, New D7000 :P.

We initially decided to cover Sangla , Chitkul and Kalpa, but things never go as you plan and it didn't. Trip was very dramatic, Long drives, car stalled in the middle of no where, snow fall.

I will start the detail log soon, till then enjoy few teasers.

Boy O Boy, what an amazing treat to watch. Lovely captures Rajiv.

Love the 3rd pic of your beastly SX4 on Rubbles and you with your stock of Arms & Ammunations in 9th pic. Now, that's what I call "All Stocked Up For A Trip".

I sense 7 Camera's in the frame, am I right or am I correct?

OT: I might sound stupid asking this, what's that tiny little OVRM in OVRM in the second pic?

Opening a Nikon dealership in Sangla, are you?

Tell us more - tempt us enough so that we rush to Sangla during the long weekend that's coming up.

Lovely Pictures Rajiv. All the pictures you posted in the opening log are unique in its own way.

Especially the picture - sale of Nikon camera's is good, is it buy 1 get 1 free ?

Re: Super Fast trip to Sangla and Chitkul

Hey mate, those are some real nice clicks! And this travelogue couldn't have come at a better time for me. I am myself planning a hyper fast dash to Kinnaur over the coming weekend so request you to provide updates about the routes taken and road conditions. As of now it's NH22 all along the way for me.

How was the weather in terms of rain & clouds?

Am I correct in guessing that the third pic is en route Chitkul? If so, did you throw the SX4 into the stream or what!?

Wow snow melts fast. Rajiv, the stream is after rakcham? The one before rakcham was all frozen when we went there.

That is extra ORVM used to check blind spots along the car.

I took into account the one used to capture, hence got the count as 7. Where are the updates and more exciting pictures.

Re: Super Fast trip to Sangla and Chitkul

Thanks friends, I will reply to queries tonight, I am stuck in process of joining new organisation.

Rudra ji, I will positively start tonight, basically we were two photographers (me being the least experienced) with two bodies each, one with wide and one with tele. Saved me from changing the lens just when I needed it

Re: Super Fast trip to Sangla and Chitkul

We had four days in hand, and exactly four days, no more. And as family was not in condition of travelling, I was free for some roller coster ride. Spiti was always in mind, but 4 days would have been just touch and back. It has to be a place where middle days are super slow for photography. So my friend Rajiv Solanki and myself decided to give a shot to Sangla and Chitkul. Now four days were still short for Kinnaur, but we were not ready to settle for anything small.

So kinnaur it was. Plan was simple, NO PLAN, we were going for photography, so no targets.

I got SX4 serviced and checked for a problem which poped up during agra trip. Service advisor declared car fit to go anywhere, but I never trusted them. How true I was

Day 1 - Saturday 09-April-2011
This was a non stop drive day till Sarhan. I started at 4:00 Am from Gurgaon and ASolanki's house near Bikaji Cama palace in 20 mins. It took us some time to start from his place. with few customary kick-off shots, we started from his place at 5:00am.

And from there it was a non-stop no break drive till Kalka. By 9:20 we crossed Kalka and took our first T&P break. and then on Journey till Shimla was event less. We were in Shimla by 12:00 pm. We decide to carry on NH22 via narkanda and very quickly crossed the Shimla mess.

From Shimla to Theog was decent road against the very poor road condition earlier.

We were cursing pretty well till matiana and then tragedy stuck, and my mind started doing all kind of calculations.

Few pics from day 1, as I was driving all the time, so very few pics on day 1.

This is what happens when you wake up at 3:30 am

Finally Solanki took matter in his hand
