Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

Coooolcat21 - Amazing pictures. The Tigers are majestic animals and you you have captured the animal royally.
I have had a single trip to tadoba 2 yrs back and your pictures lure me for another wild life trip soon.

I enjoyed tracking the tiger more than seeing the tiger itself. The thrill and anticipation of seeing the a tiger is wonderful in itself. Seeing the tiger in the open is an experience I will never forget. I wish I had not seen the tiger in my first safari. I want a trip to the cat land soon.

Also I heard that most of the tigers are collared in the reserves in MP, Is that true?

Or rather its distant cousin - The elusive Snow Leopard. There is this Hemis National Park near the Hemis Ghompha. Snow Leopards, Red Fox etc., have been regularly sighted there...

So there, after a quick bath, luggage packed, bills paid, everyone thanked and tipped for their kindness, drag ourselves in to the car.
Driving out of here is always tinged with regret that we should have stayed for that one more day, always that one more day...sigh!!
The drive is morose and the quick lunch, that we had before leaving Bagira Huts coupled with our tired bodies makes us somnolent . The drive takes us out of the buffer zone , through small villages with their white and blue painted houses and onwards by-passing Seoni, there is listless talk of stopping somewhere for a tea break without anyone actually instructing the driver to stop,
I watch the road and the shadow play through the window; we pass Pench and enter Maharashtra. Driving up a narrow mountainous road with a thick jungles on either side, something clicks in my mind, the mood perks up and the tiredness seems to lessen as I think of Mountains, not the sometimes lush green and sometimes varied rich browns of central Indian mountains, not the rolling rock faces but the stark and beautiful landscapes of a land that seems to have been formed and then frozen for eternity since the birth of our Planet, the serene face of the Maitreya Buddha with kohl lined eyes and a golden smile, seated in remote crumbling monasteries built on mountains of mud and stones, the limpid blue waters of hidden lakes reflecting the deeper blue of the sky sometimes made unbelievably beautiful by skidding white clouds…
Hmmm I was feeling as good as new!!
And then it struck me, addicts like me need a fix regularly, however in difficult times, (one of the most horrendous being the withdrawal symptoms suffered on the journey back from a holiday) even the prospect the next ‘fix’ is enough to give you energy and start planning the next holiday.

Hey Ladakh !! here I come………. why are we driving so slow, i need the net-connection at home to log on to Team BHP'S travelogue section to get the low down on various aspects of driving down to Leh, why not from Bangalore all the way to Leh?? Hey Hey Hey I think I shall gently propose this to my hubby and bro after dinner, I think I shall make some Biryani somehow always makes them more amenable........ hey hey hey .

Coooolcat,
Thank you for taking us through this wonderful, pictographic and a very well narrated journey.

Life is a continuous process of evolving and this is not possible without learning. The art of presentation, writing and landscapes...I am trying to learn from you.

Like all good things do come to an end, so has your thread, but just on the forum.

Re: Reflections on Wildlife Addictions "Pench and Kanha National Park"

Good Afternoon all, just back from Pench-Kanha outing last week with lots of pictures that I thought would share here as I did last year. So let me bring you all up to speed from my last post.
I really did not have to use any enticements to do the Leh trip, the wanderlust bug is embedded deep in our minds and we had been planning this road trip for some time now so finally lived the dream in August 2011. It was a month long trip, about 8,000 Kms, basically Bangalore to Leh, Spiti Loop, Leh-Hunder-Pangong Tso-Tsaga la-Tso Moriri-Jispa-Manali and back. Thats a log that I shall be putting up soon. however for now here is a window to my revisit to one of my most favourite places on this planet.
The Treepie and the Spotted Deer were still at it more than a year on to date.......

Pench
