Back from Boston

Mid August, had traveled to Boston, rather Framingham, a town 25 mile west of Boston. Though came back in a month, that is in mid September, but took quite a while to pen this travelogue. And this will be more like a photologue, with whatever detail my memory can recall.

Flight was Lufthansa, so had a stop over in Frankfurt. A 5+ hour stop, went almost in a ziffy, thanks to Khaled Hosseini. 'The Kite Runner' was unputdownable, and had to finish it in the flight.

In between took some snaps of the airport.

Inter terminal train leaving the starting point.

The frequency increased as the day progressed

As you can see from the snaps the day was gloomy, the sky wore a slate color overall, with continuous drizzle. It didn't help my mood leaving my li'l girl back home. Was it coincidental that even after a journey of 10 hour crossing quarter of a globe, I got almost similar weather when I reached the Logan Airport, Boston?

Nice photographs. I too wanted to take photographs from the airport, but I was advised not to due to security concerns. Waiting for more.

Re: Back from Boston

one should see it now, around -5 degrees and tons of snow. 600 flights cancelled despite the humongous work done in clearing the runways and cleaning all flights pre takeoff.. hope your travelogue has more about cars too?

Re: Back from Boston

when i was waiting for my connecting flight from Frankfurt to Atlanta, I stayed away from anything that cold attract security guys' attention.
They were picking up people at random (suspect as they say) and taking them over for questioning and frisking.
first time I saw that happen.
I stay put, read a magazine and boarded when my flight was due.nothing that could put me in the 'random' list.

Re: Back from Boston

Ok so that travelogue starts now. It was great talking to you that afternoon when you called me from Framinghan.
After travelling through FRA 4 times in the last one year, must say its fun watching those planes while waiting for your flight. One another spot for plane watching is the McDonalds in FRA. Time just flies past watching those planes.

Will keep watching this space.

Nice view of Frankfurt airport.I was there in this airport about 3months back. The train journey from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is a short ride.

A new experience!

Thanks all!

AFAIK, taking pictures is not prohibited in most of the international airports, at least the ones I have traveled through. Earlier it was in Indian airports, and flights in India, but those also been relaxed now.

Continuing...

I will not bore you with the daily grind of week-days, let's fast forward to the first Friday, 21st Aug. Morning in the office, DB (client Project Manager) came and told us whether we would be interested to see a baseball match of Boston Red Sox. We were elated.

So we started early from office, parked the car in the Boston Common underground parking lot. Walked through Boston Common, spend some time in Public Garden, walked through the downtown to reach the Fenway Park, the home ground of Boston Red Sox.

The seats were the best, as it was at sponsor's box, called EMC Club. We had a lovely (expenxive) dinner in the restaurant (you go through the restaurant to the seats. While the game progressing, I picked up most of the Rules from DB and was enjoying it thoroughly. Though the day was not for Red Sox, as they were trailing badly from innings 1 itself.

As the trip was not preplanned and we left directly from office, I was not carrying camera and all the snaps are taken in a mobile camera.

Wet Wet Week-end

First week-end was all wet, and without a car there was no way to venture out.

So clicked the shower from window

and the room

The boredom made me decide to pick-up a car on Monday itself.

Hey arindamray, I stayed in Westborough hotel near to Framingham for last 2.5 months.
Hotel room looks like extended stay, were you staying at extended stay?

Yes, it could have been "Business with Pleasure" travelogue but for Star's narration.
Most of my foreign visits are in USA ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months and IIRC in total 6 occasions - mostly in east coast, except to Dallas once. If you are going in NY/NJ/MA may be I can give some tips.

It's really a small world. Yes I was staying in Extended Stay Deluxe, Westborough. Westborough also has a ESA - so I am not sure if you were staying in the same hotel.
I have met few people from Patni and Wipro staying in the same hotel.

Damn! The fire alarm

Sunday night, the clock ticking to 11:30 pm, I was about to finish calling my home, suddenly the fire alarm went off. Took the passport and the room key in the pocket and walked down the stairs to the ground floor.

Came out of the hotel door, and saw all the guests standing in the porch, and realized it was raining and cold and I was standing in the night suit without any warm protection :(

To make the matter worse, we had then been asked to clear the entrance, which meant we were to stand in a open ground and get drenched. By the way we were given the plastic garbage bags to protect ourselves - in that situation they were really handy.

The fire brigade came, and almost after an hour or so we got the permission to go back to the rooms.

And the reason was a grease fire - the oil on the pan caught fire and the person was not able to put it off!

What an experience!!!

As an afterthought, adding this, it gave chance to meet few people. One of them I am still in touch with. So shall we say everything has "Kuchh Khatta, Kuchh Meetha".

Re: Back from Boston

Nice start ! Westborough brings back fond memories - I stayed in the extended stay on Computer Drive for quite sometime in 2006/7!

Hope you had a chance to visit the Bose HQ and MIT/Harvard

Looking forward to the pics!
