Hawk-On-Fours® (H-4®) Roadtrip - Amritsar & Pathankot

An extended weekend beckons,
Hit the roads, H-4® reckons.

The lure of the mountains is the strongest
But a guest at home is not the youngest.
The cold and the twisties are not what she likes,
So the Himalayas, for now, take a hike.

But staying at home is not what H-4® was born for,
What the heck, let's head for Amritsar.
Pathankot is also a place quite near,
Where lives an old friend we hold so dear.
A BHPian at that, Jerry68,
Let's go, I really can't wait.

Leaving home at night, we do
Keep H-4® rolling all night through.
Dawn breaks as we enter Amritsar
Hotel's kind enough to give us our rooms at that hour.
Then the thunderstorm comes rolling
Icy raindrops from the sky, they're a'falling.
Chilly winds, lovely weather
Won't miss the mountains so much either.

A few glimpses of the irrelevant things
To whet your appetite before the show begins.

Amazing!
A doc who is as mechanical minded as poetic.

Can't wait for the remaining bit to unfold.

Bring it on!

H-4 huh. With all that poetry, I wonder if you're heading Dr Palash Sen's way

Now roll them out quickly!

Your wish I shall soon implement!

H-1, H-2, H-3 are Hummer
H-4 isn't - (that's mine) ota amaar!

Dr. Palash Sen took the way of singing
And that kept his cash registers ringing.
My voice makes bathroom tiles fall down on the floor
So I'm destined to remain comparatively poor.

We missed the fish and chicken there,
Obviously, we couldn't get around everywhere.
With two old ladies travelling with us,
Choice of food was a bit of a fuss.
Paranthas & kulchas were heavenly,
Add to that many glassfuls of lassi.
Food for us has always been an obsession
But this trip we had a vegetarian session.

See the wondrous Golden Temple sit
With the shimmering lake around it.
Shining in the day and night.
It certainly is a glorious sight.

Much has been written about the temple
Search Google and you'll get info ample.
But before seeing the Golden Temple pictures,
Let's turn the camera on the surrounding structures.

Yes, and we can all see the after-effects of pure vegetarian food on a Bengali carnivore

Highways, Highways & Highways,
Roads may not have been great, blame the new road overlays,
New flyovers under constructions, detours and deviations,
Am sure the m-Hawk speeds were not a sensation

look look.
reading Doc's poem, even HVK has turned poetic.
I'm rolling around in laughter reading these poems at the same time relishing a good travelogue.
Fishes are very very difficult to capture. Nice one's there Doc.

Vegetarianism is good, even better is meat and fish,
Pure ghee may have been responsible; though I wish
To find out what diet Mr. Tagore consumed every day,
To produce the poetry that we still memorize today.

The roads were not too bad overall,
Diversions well-marked, night traffic did not stall.
8-and-a-half hours was all it took,
Driving to Amritsar by the book.
The Amritsar-Pathankot stretch was awful,
With local traffic, potholes, cows and bull.
The daytime run from Pathankot to Delhi
Took 11 hours with a stop at Haveli.
Stopped over at Karnal to refresh,
But that cost us 50 minutes no less.

Fishes are easy to capture, it's known,
How else would a Bong survive on his own?
Just that no one wants to catch one there,
Give us a choice, and any Bong would declare
Fishes are better off inside our tummy,
Swimming around, they just look yummy.

The Golden Temple is impressive,
Describing it is not my missive.
Took a look, said 'wow',
And to the Gurujis we bow.
In the morning or at night,
It is a majestic sight.

The pics taken at night don't look so good,
Because the camera couldn't be stood
On a tripod, I was politely told,
Though I could take pics if I hold
The camera in my own hand.
Pics with a tripod are banned.

What kind of logic is that, I say,
When carrying a tripod is allowed anyway.
Was told "Special permission from the 'office' is required",
I wasn't arguing, so bad pic quality can't be spared.

Saturday was part of that extended weekend,
And without a break I was going around the bend.
Lassi had in it a lot of malai,
Mixing anything else? Nothing that I
Can write about on this forum!
Not that I needed to keep warm...
"Loving it", says akp,
Are you a fan of McDee???

The coming weekend I'm headed out
To the land of kebabs and nawabs, without doubt.
H-4® will get to stretch its legs again
All through the night, come moon or rain.
Vegetarianism the last time will be compensated,
Our craving for non-veg completely satiated.
But for the moment, let me give you
Some rules from the Golden Temple, and more night shots to view.
