Awesome picture kpzen. No prizes for guessing what's my wallpaper now!
The Indian Flag with that background enhances the appeal of the picture multifold.

Some points I noticed:
  • You have spent 10 days, average cost per day 3700, so 14 day extrapolated would have cost you 14800/- extra, taking your total to 51800/-almost same as ours. Except yours is a petrol and ours a diesel, your cost should have been higher. Probably I am missing something here.
  • Your average cost for food was Rs. 434/- per day, we spent for food and water an average of 666/- per day. Some bills like KC gardens at Leh were as high as Rs.1200/- for one dinner, our lunch bills at Roof garden were also pretty high, average of about 700/- per lunch. I think our Kargil food bills were high too, we had a dinner out there and got taken though the food was very good.
  • Your hotel bill was average 1216/- per day, we spent 1659/- per day. Our billings at Pangong and Sarchu was Rs.2800/- per night, Caravan at Kargil, Santhi Guest house etc., were probably higher than your hotel bills as we did prior bookings.
I think next take I go there, will take some pointers form you

So the log comes to an end and what an amazing journey it was. But I presume that there will be many more photos which are still in process? Are we going to see some more of Ladakh? Love to see the place again and again. Hope I can make it there again on 2011 as this year seems nearly impossible. Wish I had posted my travelogue too but don't know why I didn't, may be got super lazy

Thank you Ritwik for your compliments. It was really very flattering and gave an enormous boost to my ego. BTW, what prompted this comment from you?

Ramky, reference our telecon about the D-shackles for the tow-ropes, below are the images as you desired. They are designed to take a load of 4 tons.

Guruji, is a genius with technology, I've had the pleasure of knowing him, though little through 8 odd years. Gem of a person!

Guruji,

Thanks for the upload.

The snaps of my hooks are below, as anyone can see, these probably would open up on a heavy heavy load like pulling out a stuck Scorpio; OK for normal toe jobs on straight smooth roads. Cost Rs.500/- for the whole thing while Guru's each D shackle would cost Rs.2500/-, but worth the investment, if you get stuck on mud / snow / sand, these would be very useful to pull you out.

@Kaushik: Some snaps are still in process, will load them later. You can start a T-Log when you are ready, any amount of Ladakh Photos is welcome.

I got the D-shackles for 300rs/pair. The tow straps(rated 4 tonnes) I got for 1200 INR.
I have used these multiple times in towing out heavier MUVs also, and at one time I used these for towing a sumo uphill for over 500meters on a snowed out rohtang pass.
I wonder who is selling 2500rs shackles!

I am in Delhi this week-end and would love to pick up a pair of D shackles for 300/-, please let me know where you bought it from.

As for the toe-strap, mine rated for 5 tonnes, I paid 500/-, they asked for Rs.650/-. I heard that these straps were used on Anil's Scorpio last trip during their Leh drive, it straightened out on pulling as reported by a member from that trip.

ramky, as Rajiv said, Mayapuri is the best bet.
Do not go inside the market, you get mostly scrap stuff there. On the main road you will find some big shops.
Here is our discussion before the 2009 Ladakh trip
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...w-delhi-3.html

I forgot the name of the shop.
Harjeev will have an idea since NIOC jeepers go there regularly.

As for the tow straps, from what I see, I do not thing yours can do 5 tonnes. Mine rated 4 tonnes are wider than yours!
Have used them multiple times, as I mentioned.
Once a badly beached Safari 3L was the other vehicle. Had to really pull hard. My 2.2 was sliding sideways, finally after multiple "jerks" I could pull her free.
