Re: My Egypt Days : Photologue

Hi Guys,

Thanks for everybody's wishes. I think I have to chew my words. The situation is not all that pleasant anymore. It has turned violent. The only solace is that it is restricted only to Tahrir Square (the centre of protests) and only between the two groups.

I do have pics. Of course, all taken from my building. I dont want to be a gama in the place of lamas, so obviously I am not venturing out.

Re: My Egypt Days : Photologue

Hi Guys,

Went to the Central Cairo yesterday. Basically to visit bank to take out some cash. banks had been closed since a week. The things are much normal than before. I am not sure if things are losing out steam. Most of the shops and offices are open except schools.

I could not take photographs as its prohibited there to click as of now. As soona s I took out my P & S camera, the taxi driver panicked and told me to stop it immediately. There were tanks all over. Normal traffic flowing. Some burnt buildings. Army men placed to keep things in control.

Here are some of the pics clicked when the things were boiling up.

Long night ahead..after unloading one of the tanks back again..

Re: My Egypt Days : Photologue

Guys,

There is a big protest planned for tommorrow. Things are tensed. Somehow, the Egypt events are loosing there lacklustre on the news channels which I fail to understand whereas on ground it is spreading fast. The protestors are having a sit-in outside the parliament. Protests are being held in smlaller numbers all over Cairo other than the Tahrir Square.

The news channel thing is really disturbing. Uptill few days ago, it was like live telecast from Maidan-Tahrir the entirel day on CNN, BBC World and Al-Jazeera international. Suddenly, they are on sidelines now.

Looking for tommorrow's events cautiously.

Hi Maddy! Thanks for the concern. Things are safe outside as I have been telling. The protests are peaceful.

BTW, it looks like the game is over. News poring in here that Mubarak is stepping down. A major role played by the army. He will address at 2000 Cairo Time. I noticed no news yet on Indian Channels. Lets wait and watch.. will update soon.

TaureanBull, heard on BBC that Mubarak isnt stepping down but instead said that he wouldnt be contesting in the next elections. I could see and hear the anguish and anger in the faces of egyptians once this was announced. Once could just hope that life go back to normal.

Re: My Egypt Days : Photologue

Yeah. What happened was that the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (met only 3rd time in its history) announced at 5:15 PM that it would safeguard the rights of the people. Egptian Army announced that it has stepped in to safeguard people's interest. Few senior armed forces officials announced that to people at Tahrir Square. Then there was a confirmation from the NDP (ruling party) secy that Mubarak would be stepping down. People started celebrating and expected the speech at 2000GMT to be a mere confirmation. However, it was not true. They were left high and dry.

Lets see what happens next....

Re: My Egypt Days : Photologue

A few pics about a week ago before they get out of context. It was when the pro-Mubarak people were reported protesting. There were bloody clashes between the groups. This is one of the rally by them. Numbers very feeble, non sense value very high.

As of now, they are not heard of anymore.

Does not matter where he is unless he steps down or someone else takes over over-throwing him.

Iranian TV would be the least credible in any case, considering their love for Egypt. The relations between the two countries are well known. It could well be a propaganda to spark events in Egypt. IMO Mubarak will not leave the country, running away like a coward. But the future lies in the folds of time.
