Day 5, 3rd September 2008 continued...

Yercaud

Kiliyur Falls

Some how instilled faith and courage in Senior Power Puff Girl and started our trekk down. Junior seemed to be happy to walk along the slush, mud and the rocks.

Once we reached the falls by 12:00PM, we all were happy that it was worth the trekk.

The first views - Beautiful

Day 5, 3rd September 2008 continued...

Yercaud

Parks

After a nice trekk to Kiliyur falls, we reached back to the lake by 13:30PM. We crossed a bridge over the lake to an island where we saw some captive wild life.

The Yeracud valley is amazingly green, flat and green lovely. I like the snap of the powerpuff girls holding up the rock 'midway resting point'.

It seems you were using your point and shoot and getting results like a DSLR or did you already have the DSLR at that time. If I remember correctly the DSLR came around your Leh trip either before or after, I cannot recall the timeline for that trip though.

Khoj, you are right.

The photos are taken with Canon PowerShot A80, a beautiful point and shoot camera which lets you control many parameters like a DSLR, but restricted set.

My DSLR came after the Leh trip. I got the same some time in November 2009.

Day 6, 4th September 2008

Yercaud

Bhavani Singh's Perfumerie

Once in Yercaud, it's very difficult to avoid spotting the advertisement about Bhavani Singh's Perfumerie. It's all over the place

Hence decided to give the place a try. We went to an old house where the samples made from the factory are shown. You can also arrange a visit to the factory to see how the oils are extracted from the plants.

This is a small scale Perfumery. Bhavani Singh, a freedom fighter established it in 1931. It is now run by his Son. The old house has a lot of medicinal plant samples to show the visitors. I was very impressed when he showed me a full grown goose berry (Aamla) tree. I insisted that I get a sapling, and he obliged.

He showed a lot of letters from various parts of the world appreciating his product and the wonders it has done to them.

The product catalogue

After spending a few hours at the place and testing all samples, we collected a few for us and returned back to the resort to check out.

After checking out we came down to Hotel Shevaroys for lunch. The place was crowded with all tourists, and vehicles and was a mess. Luckily got a place for us and orderd. Food came fast and was ok for the price. Quickly finished lunch and exited the place.

By 14:00PM we started back to Bangalore and reached bangalore by 21:00PM. In 2008, the 4 laning work was continuing near Salem and was completed from Hosur to Krishnagiri. Rest of the roads wer potholed two lane disaster.

After having some home made fine dinner, we retired for the day, and a fine outing comes to a conclusion.

THE END

During this trip, when we were having lunch at Lake Forest resort, a converstaion on Goa happened, and it got materialised into a wonderful trip later the same month for 8 days from 28/09/08 to 06/10/08. You can read about that here http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...km-8-days.html. That was my first travelogue in TBHP as well.

Prior to these there were many travels that we have undertaken, hopefully I get some time to pen it down like this. It helps me relive the memories - nostalgic.

Thanks a great deal for the Bhawani Singh telephone number. I bought the Panther Oil there in 2001, it is a fantastic product which I used as a pain balm (still have some left!) for almost 10 years, it is one of the beat. I had taken his card at that time, but misplaced it, he said he can ship by VPP, etc. I can now contact him and get another bottle.

Wow. This Panther Oil seems to be panacea for many of my problems arising out of heavy duty driving.
And the kiliyur falls photos are good. Hence I'm loosening the noose a bit on you.

Thanks for this report, laluks. It brought back delightful memories of my trip to Yercaud in 2007. I had stayed in Sterling too (had shared the photos through two threads: Part 1 and Part II)

This village reminds me of an experiment I had done with my Canon S3IS zoom. Without hijacking this thread, I would like to share three pics at various levels of zoom (more available in the Part II thread mentioned above):
