Unwind Karde!

Drove down to Karde from Mumbai for a rejuvenating beginning to the new year! Spent a couple of days gorging on sea food and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets!
Here are a couple of pics as appetizers!
They are sunset views from Hotel Kinara - where we stayed.

My wife and me left Mumbai with the moon for company at 0645hrs in our trusty old Indica on the 1st day of 2010.

The roads were all clear and by 0730 we were cruising on the Panvel bypass and welcoming the first dawn of the year.

Drove all along the NH17 upto Mahad where we had a heavy breakfast at Kamath's. And then moved on to get a glimpse of the famous Karde beach about which we had read quite a bit on this forum. We had made a booking in Hotel Kinara which is best situated amongst all the others along the beach.

The road right upto Khed and then onwards to Dapoli were very good. From Dapoli to Karde the road was very patchy but all the trouble was worth it.

We reached the Hotel at 1245hrs coverin a distance of 290kms, in time for a sumptuous lunch of fish fried and curried to be had with rice bhakris and rice! My wife enjoyed the veg thali too while I feasted on the fish.

Feeling satiated, decided to rest awhile as we were advised to visit the fish

auction at Harnai beach which was about 5kms from the Hotel.

The auction begins at 1600hrs and worth a visit for an ambiance of a fish market!

Here are some images of the action at the Harnai beach during the auction.
The bullock carts go in laden with ice sacks and empty crates and bring back fish from the boats. A unique system indeed.

We could have gone to visit the Kadyavarcha Ganapati from Harnai as it was just about 14kms away but decided to get back to the hotel before dark to avoid driving on the treacherous path at night.

Saw this cannon at Harnai.

The hotel was bedecked with colourful lights and there was paragliding activity in full swing on the beach!

Had an awesome dinner of, yes, fish! Retired early for the day as had to get up early to go for the ‘dolphin viewing’ boat ride at dawn.

Saw this heavenly sight from the balcony at 0600hrs.

The boat was scheduled to arrive at the hotel to pick us up at 0700hrs. And sure enough, saw the motor boat puttering in on time, and we, along

with another 8tourists, were helped aboard by the crew. And on we went in search of the elusive dolphins.

Managed to spot a few in the half hour ride that cost us only Rs.100/- per head.

The sunrise witnessed from the ocean was awesome!
Revelling in the beauty we return to the hotel and had ‘kanda pohey’ for breakfast and got ready to visit the ‘Kadyavarcha Ganapati’ which is around 20kms from the hotel at Anjarle.

Had a peaceful darshan of this legendary idol. This idol is believed to have come ashore Anjarle from the sea and was installed on the cliff using wooden pillars in around 1150.

Later it was renovated during 1768 to 1780. The Ganesh idol’s trunk is curved towards the right, which is very rare. Kadyavarcha Ganapati is also considered as the live deity (a jagrut daiwat) who responds to distress calls of common people (nawsala pavnara Ganapati).

The dome of this temple has the ‘Ashtavinayak’ embedded on it.

There is a small Shiva Mandir adjacent to this temple.
Sat there awhile and returned back to the hotel for yet another excellent meal of fish and ‘vaalaach beerd’.
Spent the evening walking along the beach, watching a glorious sunset.

For dinner that night had an unusual prawn biryani. It was a Malwani flavoured biryani and absolutely yummy! And of course every meal was accompanied by delicious solkadi.

Have you tried local juices just infront of the temple at Anjarle? the shops are located where cars are parked.
Have you taken your car on sand at karde?
I had done it and it was fun to drive the car on beach.

@khoj have put up the contact details of hotel kinara in the accomodations section and also sent you a pm with the numbers.

Karde is on the Konkan coast approx 20kms from Dapoli which can be reached via Khed or turning off at Mangaon. You can get the directions to Dapoli on maps.google.com and from Dapoli it is a short drive of 20kms on some narrow roads.
