Re: Swifted : Ooty

Just been to Masinagudi, wondering whether to update this thread or start a new one . What say guys?

Masinagudi can be combined with Ooty trip, or it can be a destination on its own.

Masinagudi is just 25 KM before Ooty and 5 Kms before the famous hairpins to Ooty from Bangalore - Bandipur side.

Anyways a teaser for you

Re: Swifted : Ooty

Is that a question at all :-O

Please make a new thread

Your travelogues are like reference material for many.

As usual, eagerly waiting for the write-up and pics.

Re: Swifted : Ooty

Laluks it was very unfortunate that I missed these lovely travelogue. At the time you posted these beautiful photos in Aug '12 I was dealing with a loss in the family.

Thanks for posting pictures of a place where I spent a few years of my childhood! My Dad was in the Defence Services and we were posted to Coonoor and later Wellington (DSSC). Drives to Ooty were common place and I remember Lovedale, Pykara Lake and Botanical Gardens as if it were yesterday. It is so nice to see all those places again.

Sorry for your loss.

Wellington is one of the most beautiful places. Thanks to it being a defence establishment, I think it is much less explored by the common public.

Would love see some snaps of common places around this area if you have it from old collection.

It is a well maintained place, as are all Defence Services areas which only serves to enhance its natural beauty. We lived there for about 4 years totally in two separate postings.

I do have family photos from my childhood days in Wellington & Coonoor. But those are prints that have not been scanned unfortunately. Now that you mentioned it I better get it done. The negatives are long lost.

My Dad had a Yashica Electro 35 GS for many years - it looks pretty similar to the Fuji X100/X100s series of cameras that people go gaga over nowadays.

http://www.kenrockwell.com/yashica/electro-35.htm

It was not used very frequently as film and especially colour processing labs were difficult to locate (W'ton is/was a small town) and it was pretty expensive. I got my 1st "exposure" to fungus as the camera lens got infected due to Wellington's wet weather during the NE and SW monsoons.

We also had a Yashica SLR, cannot remember the model though. It was sold and the next camera was the beautiful Canon AE-1 (with a 50mm F1.8 lens IIRC) which started a love affair with cameras & lenses that persists to this day. Magazines like NatGeo with their beautiful photos (and ads for delectable film cameras like the Nikon F series, Canon A-1 etc) used to make me go gaga.
