Swifted : Ooty-img_0760.jpg

We got lost somewhere inside the forest, reached a quarters of EB, got scoldings from a very old man to have taken that road. He then told with exact kilometeres what board to look, what turn to take, and some landmarks to see whether we have got lost . In the ordeal, we drove 70 KM from Avalanche through the forests, tackled 42 hairpin curves, saw some pump houses, dams, some deers on the road, cleared fallen trees from the roads, made sense from fallen direction boards, intruded into restricted pump house to ask directions, and finally an EB jeep escorted us to Ooty from Parsons Valley. All this from 18:30 - 21:00 in the dark of the night.

The god sent old man at the EB quarters and the Jeep driver at Parson Valley Dam are the two people whom we can never forget in our whole life. We were scared out of our wits

This was a day of reckoning, what can happen if you lost directions and that too in the hills in night. GPS was purchased immediately on return to Bangalore.

Good one Lalu, nice pictures from 2006. Glad that you did not get stuck in forest at night and were able to make it out of there. Its a very bad experience when you loose directions. Hope everything went well after that.

Hello laluks,

I discovered this thread of yours while on a tour and had to keep myself from checking it as I would not have stopped till the end. Got back in last night and returned home from office early today to visit Ooty through your camera lens and words.

Your posts are an addiction, they spoil you. Once you start you are never satiated and crave for more and more and I am completely hooked. If my trip were any longer (on the road since 5th) I would have experienced withdrawl symptoms for sure.

My best wishes to the powerpuff gang for many more of such wonderful trips.

Is there a way to access all of these photographs with your posts at one go? I would like it very much to be able to show these to my parents without having to load all the pages and to my 7 year old nephew who is also an avid photographer.

Laluks, this this thread is what I link to for people who ask me anything about Ooty, especially my couchsurfing friends.

As a citizen who has been born here, I wish to mention that your thread offers almost complete details about the Nilgiris.

Great thread. Rated it 5 stars.

My kids were sleeping throughout. But my wife was constantly giving me directions and confidence. At the end, we both skipped dinner, we just could not believe what has transpired. Because of the god sent old man and the jeep driver, we reached Ooty safe.

Thanks Lalu for sharing a wonderful Ooty experience. You have inspired me to make a trip to Ooty and it is the first task on my list of New Year resolutions.

I will keep in touch with you for help on charting a good itinerary that would help cover as much in 3 days.

Looking forward to more such enchanting travel experiences from you!
