These were a few pictures which I could salvage from a messed up camera. Hopefully, others who have gone or going there will come up with much better pics

Views look stunning! So the place to stay should be Somwarpet?

Somwarpet is a sleepy town and does not offer much in terms of accommodation apart from a couple of lodges. Again these lodges are just basic. I would suggest you to try homestays or do the journey from Madikeri. There are a couple of resorts near Kushalnagar. You can try it out if don't want to stay in homestays.

Also why not open a new thread about your last weekend trek to Kudremukha?

Sorry addy! could not make it to Mallalli at all this time to enjoy the falls in full glory and hence no travelogue yet. Was down and out for the last 5 days with fever and throat infections. So it was a weekend spent at home this time for me

Your pics are now inviting me to drive down this weekend or the next provided i am fully up and ready by that time!

@ampere: I did not find it easy with my wife in tow when i went the first time in summer. Though the land was dry, mallalli region had seen a shower about 2 hours before we went and it was still slippery in certain places. There is a steep descent on foot followed by a climb up on equally steep terrain to reach the spot shown in Addy's photo's with steps. I had to literally push/pull/carry my wife till this spot. We did not venture climbing down the steps since there was no water in the falls. On the whole its not an easy affair with women folk in tow. But my wife wants to visit the place again when its full of water!!

As Abhinav said, it is quite a steep descent and ascent (while coming back) and the rain will make it more tougher. Better wait till after the monsoon.

That was fast abhinav. So, how are you now? Probably to be safe, you may have to skip the trip till after monsoon. It is pelting rain there.

Feeling better now thanks! But still the after effects of fever will keep me grounded this weekend i guess.

And yes i guess you are right. Since i will have my wife accompanying me this time as well, its best to wait till after monsoon for safety reasons!

Re: Weekend trip to Mallalli Falls

Rekindling this thread as I plan to venture into this area over the coming weekend...

Aditya, first of all, thanks for the great pics and travelogue ! Indeed its a great place to go to, and though I had seen pictures of this waterfall so many times, I could never figure out how to get there...your travelogue made it !

Any decent hotels in Somvarpet that you recommend if that homestay is full ?

I didn't see any decent hotel in Somwarpet. There are a couple of other homestays nearby, apart from this one. But I don't have contact numbers. In case the homestay is full, you can ask Ponnappa to give contact numbers of other homestays nearby. All these guys know each other (maybe related, not sure). The nearest 'decent' accomodation near Somwarpet would be in Kushalnagar. There are a couple of resorts there.

I had been to the falls again this year on April 1st. Check out the pictures and see how contrasting they are.

Re: Weekend trip to Mallalli Falls

Hi All,

Update on Mallali falls, I visited the place yesterday and now the roads are all very well laid, barring one stretch of 100 m. I personally feel that this place can be chosen is for a day's ride and the bikers would love it.

Am already talking to my friends if we can plan one.

I have to download video from my dashcam which I will add in sometime so that you can get a fair idea.

Regards
Sagar
