Re: Civved : Munnar

Day 02, 31.10.2010
Munnar

After an eventful lunch I decided to take a walk. PPGs decided to go to the activity centre and do something creative.

I strolled out of the resort and walked towards the next junction where there were some shops.

Some views from the walk.

At the junction I saw a tempo on the top a building

I returned back to the resort entrance.

I find this board from the PWD there. It states it is a public road.

On enquiry I understood that the road joins a small village above the resort, and Devikulam is near that. The resort tried to take over the road and there were some protest and people won etc..etc.. So the road belongs to the panchayat and not private to the resort. But to me it seemed only on paper.

I reached the activity centre by 16:30PM after a very nice stroll. Weather was cool with the rains stopping for a while.

@Laluks, The place reminded of Sienna which is a km or two down the road. It was fun walking on that road on a misty day and with all the tea gardens out there!

Will definitely go there once again!

Munnar after the rains is very dreamy
I've been there around 9 times now. Each time it looks different, and I try to see some more. Munnar never ceases to charm me.

Re: Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar

Day 03, 01.11.2010
Munnar

Woke up early today. I had a plan to trek to Devikulam, which is above the hills where the resort was situated. It is roughly 3 to 4km trek from the resort.

Left the PPGs in the room and started my trek to the famous Devikulam. Legend says Sita once took a bath in this lake, and from that day the lake was known as Devi Kulam (Devi Pond). People believe the water of this lake has remedial powers, and never dries up. The overflowing water from the pond makes the huge waterfall we see enroute Chinakanal.

Some pictures from the morning before I got out of the resort for the trek.

I started to trek, and passed the various activities, garden of the resort.

Finally I reached a mud path

This is the same water that flows down to the huge waterfall by the road enroute Chinnakanal. The water flows to here from Devikulam.

Re: Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar

Mindblowing pics and a catchy writeup, Laluks.

By the way, how could you play friends with the leech? Didn't it start leeching on you? And I have known that removing leeches once they start sucking is pretty difficult. So how?

My experiences with these small leechy guy :

Leech do not necessarily bite/leech as soon as he gets on to you. He gets on to you and searches for his cozy location. Normally the moment he gets on to you, you feel something cold has touched you. At this point if you realise, he is still friendly - he still have not leached you. Give your finger if you dare, he'll get on to that. Experiment with him what you want to learn. I realised he can be stretched like a rubber band, and he doesn't break in to two..

He is equally scared like you are scared of him. Throw him and he goes away.

But if he had leached you - then either let him drink till he gets a high and falls down knocked out OR sprinkle salt on him - this will make him die spitting blood (a very bad death to be seen - but often gives you a saddistic happiness seeing him die (blood for blood)). Don't try to pluck him out, he might leave his tiny teeth and this might make the small wound he made on you to worsen over a period of time. Best is let him have some blood - people say he drinks your bad blood. Very nice know - he drinks your bad blood and becomes a baddy so that you can be Gooddy. But then we play baddy by sprinkling salt on him. How sad.

The place where he bit will bleed for a while. Then when settled will itch for a few days. Well that's about it.

Re: Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar

Phew! I have had leechbites before (only a couple of times) but then I saw the creature only after he fell on the floor, completely bloated.

Thanks for all that info. I don't think I will have the nerves to play with it anyway! Eek!

Re: Civved : Munnar

Munnar

I continued with the trek

Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar-_dsc4598p.jpg

Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar-_dsc4600p.jpg

Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar-_dsc4603p.jpg

I had to brave myself through this path.
Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar-_dsc4675p.jpg
It was slippery, wet and leeches hanging from the leaves. With two hands closed my ears and walked on, so as not to have a leech inside the ears. Fell down twice, looked as if I had a mud bath, and boy it was the most treacherous part.

Once I emerged out of that path, the leech had become a baddy
Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar-_dsc4653p.jpg

But the views of Devikulam soothed me down. So let the leech go, and walked on to the beauty through the marsh land braving the leeches.

Excellent snaps. I felt like I am in the midst of Munnar again. Again because I did my schooling there long long ago.

Hi rajeev,
Glad to hear you liked the pictures. Munnar is mystic and beautiful always. , And you can do away with the Mr. part.
You are one lucky guy to have done your schooling there.

Re: Civved : Kodaikanal, Munnar

Another good log, thanks a lot for sharing the details? Does dekulam gets the name from the kulam (Pond)?

Are you a member of Club Mahaindra? Just curious as you stayed at their resort at Munnar and Thekkadi.
