Thanks for the post. A few queries as I am planning to go there this Thursday.
  • Did you go on a weekend or a week day?
  • Previously the place was ill-maintained and the environment was shabby. How is it now?
  • Which is the safe place to park one's car?
  • Coracles were unsafe, when went last time as they were not providing any life jackets. Is it the same now or it has changed?
  • Are there any good restaurants around?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Crank
Below is my reply:

1- I went on a Saturday in November. It was not crowded. I guess the crowd will be less if you go on Thursday, even though now we are in the holiday season.
2- There's nothing great about the maintenance of the area. The areas where people are bathing in the open may be avoided, esp if you are with family. But this should not be a decisive factor for your visit.
3- Google maps took me directly to the Hogenakkal Car park. The car parking is good and felt safe.
4- There are life jackets provided. Also, they check the weight of all the occupants going on a single coracle. Plus, they DO NOT allow any mobiles and cameras onto the coracle ride. Mine being a DSLR, was easily spotted by the guard and I had to keep it back. Some sneaky guys did manage to take digicams and mobiles to the ride and were happily clicking photos later.
There are lockers available at nominal rent to keep your belongings.
5- I did not see any good restaurants during my trip but we already had packed lunch and therefore, to be honest I was not looking for restaurants in any case.

Enjoy your trip.

re: Bangalore-Hogenakkal Falls and back - 1 day trip

Has anyone visited this falls in the recent days? If so, few questions.
1) Is this the right time to visit?
2) What is the best route? Google shows two routes, so wants to know the which one is better?
3) Do we have boat ride there?
4) What are the nearby options for lunch?

Its been few years since I visited the falls. However, hope this helps -

1) Is this the right time to visit?
With TN and KA debating about water release, I dont think there will be sufficient water in the river as of now. Best would be to wait for rains to pick up.

2) What is the best route? Google shows two routes, so wants to know the which one is better?

Hosur - Krishnagiri - Dharmapuri bye-pass - right turn (by taking service road below the flyover) - Hogenakal is the fastest and better route.

However, Anachetty route is scenic. We had taken the Dharmapuri route for onward journey and for return took Anachetty - Hunasanahalli - Kanakpura route.

3) Do we have boat ride there?
Yes, there is a coracle ride available. Infact, that is the major attraction.

4) What are the nearby options for lunch?
You can visit Hotel Tamilnadu (TN tourism), they serve basic vegetarian meals. Location

5) Whats the crowd scene? Last time I went there were too many people and it was difficult navigating
It used to be the same, best would be to time your visit in case its a weekend. We reached there around 10.00 AM and crowd was manageable, however by the time we came back after coracle ride the place was crowded.

6) How safe is it for children to be out on the boat/coracle?
For both children and adults alike, do wear life jackets. Also, try not getting in to deeper waters. Current is very strong in some areas.

Probably we will postpone the trip by a month or so. Thanks for your response.

Further question: Are life jackets available in the place? Can they be hired? Last time I was there, more than 10 years ago, there was nothing. It was just a waterfall in the middle of nothing - with a few stalls selling cold drinks, chips and later in the evening locally caught fried fish.

Yes it's available. The coracle rate includes the usage of jackets too. Also, would suggest not to enter without the jacket in to water.

Anyone visited this place recently? How are the road conditions after Dharmapuri? Are there any restrictions on coracle rides ?

My friend visited last weekend in his HD. Road conditions are good as usual. No complaints.
For past 4 days Coracle rides are banned, including today Sunday 1st Oct. Last 3 days no one was allowed to take bath, but today as the incoming water levels from KRS reduced, they started allowing people to take bath.

Hi Folks.. Any idea about current road conditions to Hogenakkal from Bangalore via -> Attebelle - > Denkanikottai -> Anchetty -> Hogenakkal.

Planning for a day trip tomorrow and would appreciate update on road conditions, else will have to take longer route on 4 lane NH.

Just about time i was discussing the same route. Seems sairam did this route. Check out here. He has not mentioned the route condition, but you can quote him.

Guys, any recent update regarding the Coracle ride being open or closed? Or can some one suggest a way to find out like calling any hotel in the vicinity or something to find out?

I visited Hogenakkal recently on 13 Apr 2019 and everything including Coracle ride facility was working as normal. Now they have come up with strict safety measures such as mandatory Life jackets, registered coracle riders, and limitation on the number of people on coracle(4 adults + 1 kid). To be frank it's really fun and complete worth the money and time you spend on the ride.
Have a glance at our vlog on the same for more details. :-)
