Hyderabad - Basar - Nagpur road trip - Help Sought !

Hi All,
Need to travel from Hyderabad to Basar and from thereon to Nagpur.

Few questions here -
1) Where do I take the exit from NH-7 ( near Nizamabad or much before Adilabad ) ?

WHAT IS THE ROAD i.e. the SH LIKE BETWEEN BASAR and the SH road connectiong BASAR to the NH-7 ?

2) Is it possible to cover BASAR and have darshan at the temple and move on to Nagpur the same day ? Is this adviceable ?

I believe it won't be easy and advisable. Yet I want some clear opinions on this.

3) Is there any matters of concern - like ghat road with wild animals, Naxal issues, robbery/dacoity, etc. on the NH-7 to Basar to NH-7 route ?

4) Which route will be the best one to take ( and with more bus traffic ) from Basar to Nagpur ?

I am not a seasoned driver. So, will do all or most of the driving during daytime. Yet I believe I can manage.

Anyone from Bangalore or Hyderabad who have specific info. can please pass on their numbers to me with suitable timings to call ( in case they don't mind being troubled by queries ). And, I may call back.

Please enlighten.

Thanks !

you can exit NH7 at Dichpally in Nizamabad district to go to basara.

The road is good till Basara. On the same day you can start to nagpur from Basara.

Adding to what Sanjeev said, You can proceed from Basar to join NH7 at Nirmal (210 kms from Hyderabad) (approximately 80-100 kms).

From Nirmal to Nagpur is 275 kms.

This makes for a tough single-day ride especially since you have to get off the good NH7 to interior roads to Basar, plus temple darshan time.

Never been to Basar, but I have been on NH7 on the Hyderabad-Nagpur route a couple of times, after Adilabad, hardly any towns and poor facilities, but never heard of any safety issues. Even in interior Adilabad district (places like Indravalli, Utnur, Mancheral), seems to me that day time travel is OK.

I think you should think of a halt at Adilabad in case you get delayed at Basar. Time estimates could be Hyderabad-Dichpalli/Nirmal 4 hours and Nirmal-Nagpur 5 hours. Allowing for 5 hours for the Basar detour, it looks a long day - be prepared to start very early from Hyderabad (5 am or before) and drive a little after dark.

But Sanjeev, I noticed from my IMS map of AP that there is good road connectivity from Nirmal to Basar (which is in Adilabad District), but there does not appear to be any road bridge over the River Godavari from the Dichpally/Nizamabad side.

Kumar ,

Infact the road from Dichpally to Basara(Via Nizamabad) is a good 2 lane road. There is a road bridge over Godavari just before basara.

we can reach Basara in an hour from Dichpally and from Hyderabad it takes 3 to 4 hours.

Great, Sanjeev, thanks for the clarification. I have had a bad experience with NH16 that runs from Armur (beyond Nizamabad) towards Mancheral - many maps show this highway to run uninterrupted via Chinnur through Jagdalpur (Chattisgarh) to Vijayanagaram and Vizag. relaity is I the road ends at Chinnur and there is no bridge across the River Godavari!! I had to cancel my trip and turn to Ramagundam and drive to Hyderabad instead of to Vizag (I had some work near Bobbili).

I have never been to Basar, and when I referred my district maps, I found that Basar was in the other bank of Godavari in Adilabad District, hence the doubt.

While on NH16, do you know whether the bridge across Godavari at Chinnur is now complete (was under construction 2 years ago).

Thanks for the update Sanjeev, In my road atlas there is no mention of road except a railway line...

actually the road goes via nizamabad only. one has to enter nizamabad town and exit. i had been to basar three years back. on ordinary days darshan is no problem. the temple is exactly on the banks of godavari. just before basar one has to cross godavari. road is good from nizamabad. i think it is around 30-40km form nizamabad. it took us approximately 40 min from nizamabad.

Not as yet!! We motored down from Jagdalpur to Bhopalapatnam on an apology of a road called NH16. The initial stretch of the road from Jagdalpur is good (maintained by BRO), but as you near Gidam, and move on towards Bijapur & Madded, the road becomes progressively narrower.

The bridge was still not in place, when we drove to Chhattisgarh about 4 months ago. We had to turn around, head back to Dantewada, spend the night there, and had to head back the next day to Hyderabad via Sukma, Konta, Bhadrachalam & Khammam.

3 weeks ago drove from BLR - Nagpur (on the way to Jabalpur).

From Nirmal to Nagpur, first need to reach Adilabad.
The ghat section before Adilabad has some bad patches (potholes).

After Adilabad, road is not good. Only the last about 40 kms to Nagpur is fully done and divided.
Its pretty frustrating and tiring.

Be prepared.

Regards
Ravi.

Hi. We are planning a trip to basara from Hyderabad. Can anyone let me know the exact route for Basara after Nizamabad. Is it on NH 16 or we need to take another road from Nizamabad.

I did this trip a couple of times this year. however, i am not so good in knowing the town names and directions etc. Hyd-Nizamabad is 170km and when you approach that figure on your odo their is a left that you need to take that will mostly bypass the nizamabad town and will take you straight to Basar which is approximately 50+ kms from there.

Hyd-Nizamabad is a breeze and a lovely road to drive. From there on, the roads get narrower and will take you sometime. I did this drive starting from home at 10:30am and reached back home at 6pm including the darshan with a lunch stop on the highway ( sandwiches in the car). The total distance covered was around 460km.

Re: Hyderabad - Basar - Nagpur road trip - Help Sought !

Hello guys. Seems like this thread lost its relevance quite a long time back.

I have a query on the subject. I am planning to drive down to Basar from Vizag in a month's time. I request if someone could enlighten me on the route to be taken, road conditions and possible places for a lay over, if need be.

Thanks and cheers.
