My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue

The one country which I love to go any day is Thailand. I have never been so excited in my life to have my every meal in a day. Food is the most I have loved in Thailand. Especially street food.

Next to food, I would say transport & traffic system. Tuk Tuk, Metro(3 different liner), Ferry, AC bus, Cab and bike taxi. Most of the drivers advise us to take the metro if they realise there will be huge traffic ahead when we are half way to destination.
Every driver respects the pedestrian so much. I had been to EU. But I felt the Thai drivers are much considerate than others. Is it just me ? All the drivers are so skilled. Especially the elder ones. I enjoy drives in cab and felt so much safer.

I had visited multiple provinces in and around Bangkok and visited Krabi island.

Let me start with the photos of CARS

Venue: Future Park Mall Rangsit. Displayed few Vintage cars.

Packed food. Rice, Veggies with Chicken/Sea food/Beef/Pork option. They will provide a separate spicy sauce to top up the flavour.

My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue-1.jpg

As you can see the restaurant name on the bowl. MK is one of the famous restaurant chain in Thailand. Food is really good there. Pricing is good.

Cold Coffee Milk shake with bubbles. Cost 45 THB

Japanese Cuisine Food - Yayoi Restaurant.

The one thing I love about Thai food is, they provide veggies.
My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue-3.jpg

I had breakfast with salami and the chicken sticks. Chicken stick costs 2THB/stick.

My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue-16.jpg

This is a desert sold in local food stall made with coconut and chocolate flavour.
My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue-4.jpg

This is Hot dog wrapped in batter. Typically dosa hotdog. 5THB.
My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue-17.jpg

These are from many other local restaurants. They customise as per our request. Please always mention the spicy level while ordering. They always serve super spicy.

I wanted to try our legendary biriyani in an Indian restaurant.

My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue-fooddd.jpg

When it comes to food, I never had any discomfort or other digestive problems. Just a heads up. Try to be more cautious when it comes to fish or sea food. Their cooking style is different.

The street food stalls are pretty cheaper. There will be many stalls for drink which are available in most of the places/malls. I love their cold coffee drink and coconut milkshake. Their coconut water tastes different though. But I love it.

The snacks both veg/non veg available in those road side stalls and also in the malls are must try. Never miss it.

The most amazing thing is their packaging of foods in those street food stalls. It is so perfect and professional.

As I mentioned earlier, While ordering in local restaurants, always mention spicy level. Other thing is if you are not so in tourist area, mention the type of Non Veg you prefer. else they serve with pork or beef by default.

Soju is one of the finest drinks. I have seen in many Korean movies and series. They have it along with the food. I have tried it in Chennai but it available in no flavour. Whereas in Thailand it available in multiple flavours.

Re: My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue

Travelled to Krabi Island - Such a beautiful place. Travel around the island options are there with Yacht and other boat types.

Flights are available from Don Mueang Airport. Takes about 1.5 hours approximately to reach.

Stayed at Amari Krabi - Price is on upper side. But the stay was awesome.

While visiting Krabi, most of the hotels are in remote places. You cant find any shops close by. All the better hotels have in house restaurant. In case if you want to buy some snacks or drinks, buy it one the way before reaching hotel. There will be 7-Eleven available in few areas.

This is one of a transport medium with AC you can use. Pretty Cheaper and faster than buses.

Vinayagar/Ganesh often found in the country side.

- Thailand is one of best country to visit from India. I am sure many of you have visited. But who have not, you can go by on arrival visa. They charge 2100 THB which you have to pay at airport upon arrival. It takes hardly 30 mins to complete the entire process and exit the airport.

- Please use public transport which is just at the airport door step which is pretty much convenient to reach the city.

- Thai people are very helpful and patient enough to help you out. You can ask them for routes, restaurants instead using phone.
Kindly learn basic conversation lines such as good morning, good day, how much, how to, etc

- Mini AC vans, Tuk Tuk autos, Bike Taxi, AC buses are such a pleasure to ride in the city for a shorter transit. Metro lines are for long transits.

- AC buses: There is an app for the AC buses where you can see your live location to make sure how many stops are there for your destination

- Metros: there are 3 main lines. App is there for for the info on these. Route info, fares and other info are included which are ultimately useful. Thai people never rush to get seated. They always let the people come out who wants to get down and then they board.

- Toilets in public, malls often don’t keep tissues. You have get it from vending machine outside the toilet.

- Always carry umbrella. You will never know when it will rain. Also it helps for the hot climate.

- Exchange minimal current at Airport and search for Superrich for better exchange value.
Mobile data is limited for travellers. But there are Wifi at metros, malls.

- Grab is the app I used for cab services, food delivery. Drivers are very friendly, helpful. The cabs are unbelievably clean.

- My advise on food is to try any street food or small hotels/restaurants. The food is just yummy. Foods such as Chicken sticks, Hot dog roll, Rice pack are available at 5 THB each. Cool drinks such as milk shakes, cold coffee are such a delight to have it under the hot climate.

I hope I have covered all the necessary points. Please do let me know if you guys have any clarification.

Cheers
Shiva

I loved the food portion, Nice photologue!

By the way, I've heard that tuk tuks might not be entirely safe as they could overcharge us upon arrival. Have you experienced any incidents like that?

Nice report ! Although Thailand is one of the easiest place to visit from our country, this is pending for long in my bucket list. The food looks yummy, a delight for all non vegetarians without any dietary restrictions

Thanks @Raptor_diwan

Tuk Tuk is safer. I did not experience anything bad. One main thing I forgot to mention is "negotiation" whether it is Tuk Tuk or or shopping, always negotiate. You will get it at the best rate. For shopping visit places such as MBK center, Chatuchak, Siam, Platinum mall, Terminal 21. But women have more choice of clothing and varieties. Sadly there is not not much for men comparatively.

As a huge foodie, I always jump immediately to the photos of food in these travelogue posts (and get disappointed when there aren't any )

Thank you so much for taking the time to focus on the food in a country that is renowned for its cuisine. Did you also happen to sample the food at the night markets?

Re: My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue

Man, I wish I had this travelogue before I had a similar trip in April this year.

Krabi is indeed a beautiful place, however, during my visit the weather was too hot for us to try something exotic and we did stick to our basic tried and tested cuisines.

The one thing I liked about Bangkok or Thailand in general, is the car culture, seen all sorts of modifications on Hilux and Ford Ranger along with some old Chevy Silverados!

Re: My memorable days - Thailand - Photologue

That's a nice travelogue to start with on a weekend! Great pictures and informative content, thanks!

I've stayed in South Korea for a considerable time, and Thailand looks pretty close to that country (except for the modded cars) - great public transport system, roads, civic sense, people and food!
Frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised by how Thailand feels.

I have a few questions as a noob traveler. Appreciate it if you (or any others) could give your insights:

1. I'm planning for an international trip with my wife (first overseas trip for her). I'm confused between Bali and Thailand. Any pointers regarding which one is better?
2. Also, if we visit Thailand, do we really need to come via a travel agent? (I always like to explore places by myself. I kind of feel more 'involved' in a trip that way. But, I dont want to risk the first experience for my wife, haha).
3. We're vegetarians. Can we too enjoy the food scene there? (I travel hungry in South Korea, ALWAYS). Any tips for us poor hungry souls in Thailand?
4. I love it if there's a little culture involved in the places where I visit (instead of just sky scrapers and urban jungles). It looks like Thailand does have a bit of everything for everyone. Any offbeat places to explore there?

Thanks in advance!
