Over the years I have visited Philadelphia, Pennsylvania state in USA a number of times and have a collection of Pictures to share.
As is common in most of the cities, besides a scenic outdoors, there are plenty of sculptures around. Some are pieces of art while others are of eminent people who have contributed to the rise and development of USA. Schuylkill river flows through the city and a Walking / Cycling trail has been constructed for health conscious residents. Walking along, I captured quite a lot of these beautiful statues. It was Winter season and bone shattering chill, yet, a walk was much needed.

Approaching Schuylkill river from the Falls Road & Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Railway Track over Neills Drive. Being a hazy day, the pictures on the first day, are not as good as could have been on a sunny day.

What once adorned interiors and pleased children, now lie at isolated place. Better keeps eyes covered rather than seeing this cruel world

Falls Bridge - One of the many over the Schuylkill River. This one is just a little outside the City and starting point of my over 5 km walk. A signboard in honour of those involved in its construction.

Unfortunately, Racism exists not only among the citizens , but among Trees too. It is bark peeling off that gives this extremely white colour look.















Vegetation can grow anywhere. Even the stonework of Bridges make place for life of plants. Water dripping through forms icicles in extreme cold conditions.
















We have all walked above the bridges or passed under them. A view of the Steel Bridge and its under side.

Boathouse Row, a prominent landmark of Philadelphia which house boat clubs and other marine related agencies. Rowboats ? Canoes lie on the riverbank with their bottoms up. Awaiting Winter to pass to be in action

Some statues of eminent personalities, along the path









A small section of the large Fairmount Park, that stretches along the Schuylkill River. Some way to honour the people who shaped the USA.









































Following the 1881 assassination of President James A Garfield, the fairmount Park Art Association commissioned a memorial in his honour. Prominent artist Augustur Saint-Gaudens was chosen to create the work, located across the street. Initially a standing figure on a pedestal was expected, but the artist decided on a bronze bust of Garfield above a female figure representing America.

Day 2

Sunny with clear blue sky. Walking from the other end of the Trail.

Mural of the Sports Americans love - Baseball. Though the Bats are also commonly used in street violence too.






Snow covered river-bank grassy patch and the Railway Track besides it.

Just across the street, in a vast expanse of green lawns (turned white with snow in winter) stands the memorial to honour Abraham Lincoln.

A little way across the Kelly Drive that runs parallel to the Fairmount Park, is the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Walking all around it, there are Statues of eminent persons in the history of America. Display board guides to each of these. Most prominent being the Statue of Rocky. The steps leading to the Museum are named as Rocky Steps in the memory of great actor whose Film shooting was done here.

Grateful for the wonderful collection of photographs, taking us along with your morning walk by the river and through the history of Philadelphia. The fotos of the river bridge with their reflection in the water, completing the symmetry are ingenuous. ��
