With the current summer season coming to an end, we planned a road trip for my daughter before her school reopens. But the biggest challenge was the to decide “Where to go?” Beaches, Hill Stations, or Adventure Camps?
Travel Priorities
1. Distance [<700 kms as I am the only driver in the car]
2. Roads & Travel Duration [12hrs Max]
3. Food [As my daughter is a picky eater]
4. Better accommodation
So, after a 4-hour long brain storming, I had finalized on 2 places. Gokarna or Dandeli. And zeroed on GOKARNA [my family voted for beaches]. This is my daughter first road-trip over 400kms.
All this happened on a Friday afternoon and we decided to start on the early hours of Sunday.
We have 2 routes to Gokarna from Hyderabad.
Route 1: via Mahbubnagar, Raichur, Gangavathi, Koppal, Hubbali – 677km & 14hrs
Route 2: via Humnabad, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, Hubbali – 700km & 14hrs30mins
On my return from Goa in Dec-2020 I had taken the 1st route [via Hubbali, Gangavathi, Mahbubnagar]. We had a rough journey as they were repairing and laying new roads back then in Dec-2020. Having this in mind, I thought the roads must have been laid and must have been very good. So decided to take 1st route to Gokarna.
It’s at 03:00AM on Sunday we woke up and started around 03:20AM to Gokarna. Yes, I prefer to start the journeys very early, so that I can avoid traffic and reach my destination early. And as expected, with almost no traffic and excellent roads, we have reached Jadcharla in 1hr. My wife and my daughter were sitting in the back row, having fun playing and listening to music. The roads decent from Mahbubnagar to Raichur. But from Raichur, the roads were not good. The road works are still under progress. They are still building the roads for over 16 months now. Luckily, as I had started early there was very little traffic. Else we would have reached our destination at least an hour late than we expected. The roads continued to be bumpy till we crossed Gangavathi. It is from Budugumpa Crossroads, the roads felt better and from Koppal we have toll roads and are excellent again. The toll roads from Koppal to Hubbali are still under construction [over 90% completed]. The drive was relaxing.
The first break I took was after 425kms at 09:40AM for 10-15mins and started again. In less than half-an-hour we’ve crossed Hubbali and entered the ghat roads. I love these roads here. Every time I drive to Goa, I use this route via Kalaghati and yellapur. It’s around 150kms and it will take close to 3hrs from Hubbali to Gokarna. We enjoyed drive thru the curvy roads and the forest.
Reached our destination at 02:45PM at Kudle beach.
At around 5pm we visited the beach which was 2-minute walk from our accommodation.
The beach felt so good and refreshing after a 11hour journey. We did not spend much time in the water as the sea water was little dirty. The beach was less crowded. We stayed there till sunset. The sunset on the rocks of Kudle beach was memorable.
The night was breezy, and we had our dinner at one of the shacks on the beach. Relaxed and spent some time in the beach after our dinner and left back to our cottage to rest.
Hey, I did not mention about my vehicle. It is the
Ford Figo [2014] Diesel Titanium that I drove. As always, the driving experience on my Ford Figo was awesome. The 8-year-old was easily able to match and out run the new-gen SUVs as well. Even after 85K km run, my Figo has the rev and power to ease the driving. Kudos!
And this is my post here in the Team-BHP
