Re: A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-enterng-tezu-1.jpg

I mentioned earlier in my opening post that the roads leading into Tezu are great. Here are some photos of the same.

Smooth roads - a pleasure to drive.

It was another 1.5hrs later that we moved out of the restaurant towards Bomjir via Roing.
This road had the least traffic density of our whole trip and can be cruised at good speeds.

A late afternoon sun welcomed us into Bomjir.
A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-roing-bomjir-3.jpg

As the Sun sets early in this part of the country, our aim was to reach the resort as quickly as we can and the roads helped a lot here. It was another thing that by the time we reached, the nucleus of our solar system had disappeared and another heavenly body had appeared to reflect some of the light energy to welcome us for the night.

Yes, that’s the moon high up in the evening sky.

This resort is located on the bank of river Dibang which originates and flows through the Mishmi Hills.
Location linky: https://goo.gl/maps/KyH1CyPMJcNwv7XX9

The Bomjir Resort is situated adjacent to the foothills from where the river leaves the hills and enters the plains. The river widens so much in this area that we were left scratching our heads searching for its point of entry to the plains. The rivers in this region are shallow and wide.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-bomjir-map.jpg
The moment we entered the property, our tiredness evaporated anticipating the awesome night awaiting our arrival.

We checked-in and the found the rooms and amenities to be better than our expectations from a typical cottage type resort in north-eastern India.

The sky was clear and was depictive of a sunny day tomorrow. There was no fog at all but dew was forming accompanied by a bone-chilling breeze which demanded for the much needed bonfire.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-bonfire.jpg
Had our dinner at the common dining place and retired for the night. The soft mattress and blankets engulfed our bodies with the warmth of a promise to deliver an even better experience in the morning.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-sunrise-2.jpg
We woke up early to view the sunrise, quintessential when you are visiting the easternmost part of India.

They say patience is a virtue.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-sunrise-3.jpg
And we were aptly rewarded.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-sunrise-4-tea.jpg
Arunachal stood upto its name and gave us an amazing view of the rising Sun which we enjoyed sipping tea.

We freshened up for breakfast and went towards the wooden structure where we dined the previous night. It was dark the previous night so couldn’t make out much of the surroundings. However, the vibgyor clad sun rays made quite a revelation by means of the golden rays on lush green grass laden with dew drops. Our eyes went into High Dynamic Range automatically.

Sky, mountain, river and land.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-after-sunrise-1.jpg
The mountains looked blue and so did the river.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-after-sunrise-3.jpg
Blue was omnipresent on the landscape in various shades. (The mirror of my camera has gathered some dust particles which makes themselves apparent on zooming.)

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-dogs.jpeg
Made a couple of local friends.

The resort had facilities like cycling, river rafting, ATVs, an air gun but we didn’t bother much as we had to reach home by evening. I even spotted a canoe.
Construction work was under progress and the morning around the resort was a flurry of activities ranging from excavation to petrol powered chain-saws. Saw a couple of tastefully modified Gypsies complete with winches. Couldn’t take a pic as they were a bit far and I was driving when I spotted them. Viewed from a distance, I suspect SPOA conversion was done too, to my untrained eyes. But I may be wrong. What caught my attention was an old Nissan Jonga truck parked in the distance of which I took a pic by zooming-in after stopping my car, leaving my co-passengers wondering what the hell did I saw in this old rusty truck.
A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-jonga.jpg

We left our night’s nest and moved on towards Pasighat via NH13.

Re: A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh

About 18kms from Bomjir lies Dambuk, a place famous for orange cultivation, about which I’ve mentioned in my opening posts.
A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-orange-cultivation-1.jpg

The road from Dambuk to Pasighat should be in the bucket list of travellers visiting this part of Arunachal. I will try to convey my words by photos but seeing is believing and no amount of photography and editing skills can portray what your eyes can capture.

Now this stretch of road has seen some good action in the recent past.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-dambuk-pasighat-15.jpg

A true driver’s and biker’s delight this road is, but it comes with a fly in the ointment. The smooth road comes with pebble strewn shoulders at places and bikers should apply caution here.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-mebo-1.jpg
We stopped at a place named Mebo to get some oranges and pineapples.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-mebo-2.jpg
Sweet oranges for sale (Rs.100 a kilo).

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-mebo-3.jpg
Pineapples too @Rs.50 each.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-mebo-4.jpg
Dry chilly flakes in old whiskey bottles @RS.50 each.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-mebo-pasighat.jpg

We covered this entire stretch from Dambuk to Pasighat in silence and tried to take in the pristine beauty on offer, never exceeding 50kmph. Only sounds were of the engine, tyres and the small turbo underneath the hood sucking in the unpolluted fresh air and blowing out the excess pressure from the blow-off valve, responding to the pedal inputs. I realized all of this on reaching Pasighat which broke my hypnotic state owing to its hustle bustle being the headquarters and business hub of East Siang district. It is also the oldest town in AP.

Re: A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh

Lovely thread.
On oranges it is a mix of the species, soil and weather. In our childhood in Kolkata it used to be called Nagpur oranges and Darjeeling oranges, with Darjeeling being premium. Nowadays you rarely get Darjeeling oranges in markets, and the abomination called Kinnow instead.

We stopped for a quick lunch and had the same in CJ’s Restaurant which had a good menu, food and ambience.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-20220213_151351.jpg

Immediately after lunch, I realized how tired I was as waking up at 5 in the morning is not in my routine after sleeping late.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-leaving-ap.jpg

Also leaving Pasighat made me feel that sad feeling we always get by the end of a good trip or a good book or a movie, wishing it not to end so soon.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-ap-sunset.jpg

The Sun was setting by the time we entered Assam and we stopped for tea. We were tired, thirsty and never wanted tea so badly and had two cups each, thanks to the chaiwala for his wonderful cutting chai.

Somewhere near the tea stall.

Soon we were crossing the Bogibeel Bridge over the Brahmaputra which is the longest rail-cum-road bridge in India, measuring 4.94 kilometers and marking our entry into Dibrugarh and end of our trip.

Special thanks to my family, friends and our trusty steeds who accompanied me and without whom the trip wouldn’t have been possible.

A day long drive in Arunachal Pradesh-car.jpeg

As quoted by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Its the not the destination, it's the journey.” is what one would realize while travelling through the “Land of the Dawn-Lit Mountains”.
I hope this travelogue inspires those who haven’t yet visited northeast India and also my family and friends to accompany me in my trips to make wonderful memories.

Thank you. Tawang is in my bucket list too. Maybe someday. West AP plan was made a couple of times but couldn't make it due to various reasons.

What a lovely description of the place Prakritij, now I know what I missed by not getting the chance to stay at Bomjir Resort. You have written quite lucidly about the routes and places you have visited and seems like we might have bumped into each other had our dates matched. Nevertheless, keep travelling in that lovely vehicle of your’s, I have only admiration for it.

Regards.

Thank you. Also me to have praises for the tdci you have. Such a remap friendly engine powering Ford India's cars without any issues.
