Re: Weekend getaway to Ajodhya Hills, Purulia in a Tata Vista D90

Nice short & crisp travelogue to the highly underrated Ajoydhya hills. Also, the photographs & narration makes us ride with you virtually. We had also made a trip earlier this year and loved the place.

Keep travelling.

Cheers,
Pawan

Thank you Pawan. Underrated is the right word to describe the Ajodhya Hills and maybe that is a good thing. Too much commercialization will definitely ruin some of the natural beauty and charm of the place. It is actually amazing how unknown this place is as a destination. It is never top of mind on anyone's list even if they have heard of it. Guess that will change soon thanks to social media and the fact that weekend tourism has really caught on these days.

The Fiat MJD in its 90 BHP tune is really a stonker of an engine and it is a pity that it is no longer around thanks to BS6. On hindsight, buying the Vista turned out to be a great decision despite the car being pretty ugly to look at and the presence of the typical Tata issue with fit and finish - it has been an absolutely trouble free ownership of over 8 years and the car is a beast on the highway in terms of straight line stability and planted and pliant ride quality.
Yes, it is a beast on the highway, I can vouch for that! But I will have to disagree with you on one point. The vista is far from ‘pretty ugly’. In fact I remember in my school days I used to find the vista very impressive, especially a big jump from the indica and the very disproportionate indigo. I really liked how the vista looked.

To be honest I liked the look of our Indica V2 although it was the pits in terms of refinement. The Vista was a big step up in terms of space, performance and refinement and those were some of the reasons why we chose it. However, I personally did not like the look, especially the rear bumper without the skid plate plus the disproportionate headlamps with the gap between the lamps and the hood. I also never liked the grill. Still, the entire package was appealing and extremely VFM so went for it. I think the Bolt's design should have been that of the Vista at launch - I find the Bolt better to look at. I will cover the buying process when I put up the long term ownership review at 1lakh km. Only another 16k odd kms to go.

Indeed it was a memorable trip and I will definitely go to this part of the country again. Thanks a lot for your wishes - I love reading your travelogues too. In fact your Dooars thread really helped us plan our trip when we went in Feb.

Ayodhya Hills is a nice place for a short trip and looks divine if the weather is overcast with slight breeze.
Durga falls is not so majestic but it's quite an experience going down to the falls and coming up back to the road. It's avoidable to take a shower under the falls due to slippery rocks, but it looks very tempting to do so, given the easey access.
Spending time near the upper and lower reservoirs is a bliss in itself.
This portion of WB and Jharkhand is filled with several gems like Ayodhya Hills, mukut Manipur, Chandil, Dimna, Dalma, etc.

Indeed it is. In fact for our next plan to this side of the country, we have decided that we will increase the number of days and cover all those places in Jharkhand plus the Netarhat side as well.
