Lockdown Diaries - Rohini Park - North Bengal

It has been a while not going anywhere due to two things first lockdown and the second not having the car (My polo )with me (Currently in my hometown Siliguri and my car sitting idle in Chennai for more than 6 months).

Options denied by family - Rented & Zoom Car , so ended up buying a Maxi Scooter - Suzuki Burgman Street 125.

Saturday night (The day I bought it) planned to take a short trip to Rohini Park which is situated enroute Darjeeling via Rohini-Kurseong Road.

Morning 7:30 am started my journey and once I climb the first flyover my wife (My pillion) started screaming "Sada Pahar" , "Sada Pahar" which means White Mountain. As a local I know what white mountain in my area means, its nothing other than Mt. Kangchenjunga. What a start I got, immediately stopped the scooty over the flyover and try to take a snap from my phone. You couldn't get a glimpse of it regularly.

Continued my journey towards my route and crossed the tea gardens and took a sharp right turn to enter towards Rohini road while chasing a tata sumo.

The Road started to go up and down near the foothills where I met a Black Drongo sitting idle like me during lockdown.

Once I cross the Toll Plaza (Rs 5 one-way ). The incline suddenly started to be on the steeper side. The view of Himalaya's will always take your breathe away. After taking few sharp bends and hair pin bends, I realized I came quite far from Rohini. Stopped the vehicle near a tea shop (Didn't have tea due to Corona precautions ) and enquired about Rohini Park. The tea seller told that I came quite a bit above and I need to go back downhill and climb a short road to reach the park. From main road I have to turn right (normally it would be left turn, as I was coming the otherway round) and start climbing. The roads conditions were horrible sorry terrible.

But Once I reach the parking spot and entered the park its simply worth a climb.

You need to take a narrow walkway to reach the top of the park passing a man made lake.

You can see a Shiva Linga (Temple) at the top.

The view from the top is simply breathtaking .

Immediately started taking snaps and selfie's. It was quite empty at the top, only one more family was there.

After spending around 45 mins and taking some more snaps & selfies walked down to the parking. Took a mandatory selfie with the scooty and started our journey back home........

A very nice write-up and I really liked your pictures as well. Plus, it was great to see the power of suzuki over hills. I do have a trip planned at my in-laws(Kolkata) in coming months, will definitely consider visiting Darjeeling and nearby areas.
