What an adventurous and epic trip.It is a threadbare tutorial of everything that can go wrong in these type of trips and the ways to ultimately overcome them. Congratulations for the perseverance shown by both of you comrades in partial completion of your targeted trip.

Thanks @Max63, I can relate to this, having done Spiti and Ladakh both in Swift and Scorpio 4WD. A vehicle with high GC and 4WD definitely inspires confidence. In fact, it was my passion to drive to these places that I opted for a 4WD, even though everyone from friends, relatives, Mahindra dealers suggested otherwise.
The counter logic was that locals of these areas primarily drive hatchbacks, so why a 4WD is required. However, travelers like us don't have the luxuries that locals have like plenty of time to wait for the road to get repaired or abandon the vehicle for few days or abandon the trip .

You live and learn
Probably, I was lucky during my solo Ladakh trip in Swift. I just had leaked rear passenger side suspension (near Sumdo), broken front bumper, damaged passenger side fog lamp and horn (at Gramphoo).

Excellent thread! The travails of Man and Machine against mother nature is always an interesting read.

What engine did your endeavour have? 3.2 or 2.2, Manual box or Auto?
