Considering the fact that we started by 09:30, it was a great walk for 5.5 hours. It was a leisurely walk exploring the path locals use to travel between the two villages between states. But in the happiness, our tummies were completely ignored and it started to complain. There is an Eco tourism spot near Mannavanoor lake and we decided to head there. Idea was to get some food and to check out the lake and relax a bit from the tiring walk that we just had. We drove towards Mannavanoor Eco Tourism Spot By 15:30 we parked near Eco Tourism Spot  Entry is from 09:30 to 17:30. If you happen to be in the bus from Moir Point visiting Berijam lake, then the same bus will come all the way till here and you see this lake also. I was told the service was charged 150Rs. It is a very good controlled approach I would say for that trip.  Some interpretation centre  But we were only interested in food, and these options existed for us. Meals and omlettes it was!! | re: S-Cross'd : Kodaikanal (without visiting it) and a walk to Munnar Day 02 : 08th June 2019 : Saturday Kodaikanal We drove to Kumbur Village We then drove to Kilannavayal, but the roads were destroyed and was full of slush, so we returned immedaitely Route map - Kilavarai to Mannavanoor Lake to Kumboor to Kilannavayal  Drive from Kilannavayal back to Mannavanoor Route Map - Kilannavayal to Mannavanoor  We stopped by SRRC, Sheep Rearing and Research Centre.  Board says its open for visit from 09:30 to 16:30. We were not even remotely interested.  We reached our dirty and Damp room by 18:30. We just dumped our bags in the room and went for a walk in Mannavoor town in search of anything good. But since it was a weekend, the place was filled with people trying to get whatever is available for dinner and a place to sleep. By 20:30 we decided to stop our search and came back to our rooms. To our shock we find even the corridor where we sat last night filled with people. The other rooms near to our two were given out, and you know what, each of those rooms had six people in it. While we wondered how in that room even one person cannot sleep, how six could get in, it all boiled to the fact that with out much research of what is available, people just drive/ride in. Then they get what they have at exorbitant prices. I was told the room went upwards of 1500 for the night, for 6 people!! Somehow got the crowd away from our corridor and we got our table back. We chit chatted for a while and updated ourselves of some news from our phones and hit the bed by 22:00. Tomorrow we leave Mannavanoor and go more towards Kodai |

Caught hold of the caretaker and gave the remaining money, since my colleague never gave him the full costs in advance for any eventualities that could have occured. We then drove towards Kookal Lake, and Kovilpatti village. Route Map to Kookal Lake, and to Kovilpatti  Mannavanoor to Kookal Lake Kungfu Panda (Jr.) at Kookal Lake   Beautiful Kookal Lake  Kookal Lake to Kovilpatti Village Kovilpatti Village to Pazhamputhur, but it was not to be, the roads were broken and we had to abort. But we decided to go to Pazhamputhur anyways So we come back to Poomparai Road From Poomparai road we drive towards Pazhamputhur, and we stop by for some photos Beautiful vistas  Kungfu Panda (Jr.) enjoying the same    After enjoying the beautiful vistas we continue towards Pazhamputhur via Puthuputhoor Since we are explorers, we wanted to join the dots, so we drove towards the place where we had to abort when we drove to Pazhamputhur from Kovilpatti  This is what we did  continued.... Well we could not say anything against his instincts since we just landed at his territory. Friendly dog checking us out He wanted a peek inside the car too  We then started back from joining Dots to Pazhamputhur village On the way back from Pazhamputhur we stopped by for some photos Some pictures from the photo stop    Kungfu Panda (Jr) at the photo point  We then drove on and stopped by at a viewpoint Kungfu Panda (Jr.) parked at the view point   Beautiful views from the viewpoint    It started to rain, and I tried some rain photography  We waited for a while for the rain to stop to move to our next destination, meanwhile another drop photography!!  continued... |

Poombarai Village   We drove from Poombarai View Point to Palani Hill View Point Palani Hill View Point  You have multiple stuff to do at Palani Hill View Point  Kungfu Panda (Jr.) waiting while we check out Palani Hills View Point  It was already 11:45, and we decided to have brunch so as to enable us to a continuous stretch of drive than to break again for food. We stop for Brunch By 12:30 we start again after brunch. We reach Ten Mile Road Route map  At the junction where the road from Mannavanoor joins Ten Mile road, left takes you to Kodai lake, and right takes you to Moir Point and all the fancy points in Kodai before reaching Kodai lake. continued... |

It was such a mistake, the entire route was choked. We realized that in some few hundred meters and turned around, Thankfully. So this trip had to be to Kodai, but without really visiting it!!! Oh my god, All vehicles are in Kodai. 5 Kms plus of traffic jam  Thank fully not on our side Road rage  We were diverted to interior roads till Kodai lake due to the traffic madness As we like it, we turned towards Pallangi Village to explore The drive to Pallangi village passes through several orchards. We saw many fruit trees enroute. We returned from Pallangi Village The route Plan  We had plans to go to Vilpatti and further, so we drove towards Vilpatti. continued... If yes then that would be our 8th route to Kodai. It would join Palani road, and this would be another promising route to reach Kodai, but there is unfortunately no connection.  So we drive all the way back to Vilpatti Village From Vilpatti Village we drove to Kodai Lake Now that we have done this segment, we have to exit Kodai. So we drove from Kodai lake to Kodai exit We reached Palani Turn off We took the route towards Palani. We are taking this route to prove Route 5, second popular route to Kodai The scheme of events from Vilpatti till Palani, we would have at least saved an hour had there been the connection as the arrow showed.  We exited at Palani and then we drove towards Vedasandur. We were running short of time hence proving route 4 and 3 were seriously in question. continued... |

Kodai to Palani was done and then we drove towards Vedasandur. By the time we reached Oddanchathram, it was 17:00. My calculation was we will have at least 1.5 to 2 hours of sunlight remaining for our exploration. Palani to Oddanchathram  So as planned we took the deviation from OddanChathram to Parapallar dam to prove Route 4  Oddanchathram to Parapallar Dam From Parapallar dam we drove towards Pachaloor, and searched for Kodai turn off  Parapallar Dam to Pachalur Pachalur to Kodai turn off Sunlight was getting dim, and we were really worried of completing the mission. We searched for Kodai turn. Firstly we missed and reached a dead end, and secondly the route seemed to be a patchy one and we decided not to attempt it in the current scenario with no sun light. We decided to come back later to prove this. Kodai Mission Aborted So the red arrow mission was aborted. But I promised myself I will be back soon to prove this  We drove from this turn off to KilakkuchettiPatti. At Kilakkuchettipatti, I saw road forking. I was not aware of a right turn there, since I had a plan to visit this area to complete the mission, I made a note of this turn. We then took the left and drove towards exiting these mountain roads. So we take this scheme via Adalur and exit at Dharumathupatty to join a road which takes us to Dindigal  Kilakkuchettipatti - Adalur - Dharumathupatty, our Potential Route 3 We then took a road to connect to Dindigul  We reached Dindigul outskirts by 20:00. Stopped for dinner and started by 21:00. I drove nonstop and after dropping my colleague to his home, I reached home by 02:30 on Monday 10th June 2019 morning. A total of 1418Kms round trip, and Kungfu Panda (Jr.) turns 47K+  Hit the bed immediately with a thought to go back to explore the aborted route to Kodai, to make a proof for Route 3 and 4. It was fun, such exploration of a normally visited and abused hill station on a crowded weekend all for ourselves was nothing short of an achievement At this time, little did I know I would be back in a couple of weeks to complete the aborted route The END |
