Its been a while that I had posted on TBHP. Over the last year or so, life threw a lot of challenges at us, and we as a family, were too busy to fight it out. Taking a vacation was not on our list of priorities.
This trip was to help us unwind, introspect, appreciate life and forget all the hardships that we went through and move on. We were celebrating 1 year completion of chemotherapy for my wife. She survived a Stage 2 cancer that was on the verge of becoming life threatening.
Quebec City is very close to our hearts. This was our 2nd visit and this time, we wanted to take it slow. We dedicated 5 full days at Quebec City, including 1 full day at Jacques-Cartier National Park. We did the trip on weekdays, so that we can avoid the weekend rush that descends on these tourist cities.
The Altima is gone now. In between, bought a 2014 Mazda 3, but it proved a bit small of us. My son calls the new family member, the 'Brownie'. For the rest of us, its a 2011 Toyota Venza AWD.
I would like to keep the narrative to the minimum and let you enjoy the pictures.
On a Monday morning, left home at 3:00am. The trunk of the Venza was full to the brim. The plan was to avoid the weekday traffic around Toronto and reach Quebec City by 3:00pm. The total distance to be covered was 887 kms (door to door).
The Venza performed flawlessly. With 3 breaks along the way, we parked in front of the hotel at Quebec City, at 2:30pm. This was our first big trip with the Venza, and I was amazed by the level of comfort with which the Venza transported us this 900 odd kms. The trip computer showed an average speed of 93 kmph. Along the way, we witnessed this beautiful sunrise.
Lets now embark on a trip to take in the sights and sounds of Quebec City.
The highlight of Quebec City is Old Quebec City. This is the old part of the city, where the charms of the olden days from the time of the French settlements, have been restored in pristine conditions. Today, this area serves as an excellent opportunity for photo shoots, interesting shops along with their even more interesting windows, excellent restaurants and souvenir shops.
We visited the old city multiple times. Our visit during the night was especially interesting, for photo ops. Here are some snaps from the daytime visits.
Street music by some local musicians What fascinated me was the little girl standing still, capturing the music with her phone The mural on the wall is a historic fresco. There are total 11 of them in Quebec city, that were painted to celebrate the city's 400th anniversary. This one depicts some of the famous characters from Canadian history.
I can easily spend hours together roaming around these cobbled roads.

The shops at Old Quebec City have decorated windows and doors that are artwork themselves.
