Re: Chasing wildlife in the Western Ghats

Nice TL. Detailed writeup. Good photos. Thanks for sharing. Your TL inspires me to visit Dandeli as I've never been there before.

I think it's a crested serpent eagle in flight and not an OHB. Also a black winged stilt rather than a red shank and a pond heron and not a black crowned night heron. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

After covering Karnataka, do plan a western ghat drive in Kerala. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you sir ! I am glad I could inspire you All three of your suggested corrections are valid. I suppose I can't edit my posts though.

Kerela visit surely is on my list for this year during December. Haven't sat down for the detailed design yet.

I think you are a bird lover as well, and hence I will strongly recommend visiting Dandeli, and staying at least 1 day at the Old Magazine House. There are other activities also in Dandeli like wild safari in the forest, white water rafting, etc. which non- birding enthusiasts will enjoy.

Please do away with the salutations. We are all Bhpians.

Editing of posts is definitely possible.

I've been seeing quite a lot of exquisite bird photos from old magazine house and would definitely give it a try in near future.

Is there any season to visit Dandeli?

JLR Dandeli takes you to the govt. timber yard for bird watching. Govt. has planted many fruit bearing trees, I think any season should be fine. One of the largest timber yard I have ever seen. It's huge for a person coming from western ghats.

River rafting is run between Oct/Nov till March based on daily water release schedule from the dam.

You can call JLR and check seasonality and details. They are good with pure suggestion also.

For route, pls check a couple of threads on Dandeli.
