Super Sunday at Bhigwan - A photologue

This is my first thread on Team -BHP hence please accept my apologies for any incoherent remarks.

As my wife and kid had gone to my in-laws place for the weekend, I decided to do a solo trip to do some birding at Bhigwan. Bhigwan is a popular birding destination which is around 90kms from Pune on the Solapur Highway. It is also popular as the Bharatpur of Maharashtra and hosts many migratory birds during the winter season.

I slept on Saturday night setting the alarm for 4.30 am as I was planning to leave early on Sunday morning and reach Bhigwan by around 7 am.

However as it happens with all plans the alarm went off at 4.30 am and then as usual I shut it off , finally waking up at 7 am. I was in two minds on whether to carry on or cancel my plans for the day. Since the family was out and I had nothing better to do all alone at home I decided to drive to my planned destination.

I started at 7.30 am and since it was Sunday traffic was very sparse all throughou the journey to Bhigwan. It was a beautiful morning drive with blue skies and sparse clouds.

The Jetta also got a chance to breathe with no traffic on the roads and it helped me reach my destination in about 90 mins. I am sure it would have breathed a sigh of relief after constantly being driven in the crazy Pune traffic over the weekdays.

Once I reached Bhigwan I usually park my car in "Kumbhgaon". In my past trips I have always contacted Mr Datta Nagre who arranges a boat for me to go around the backwaters. Since they are local residents they are well aware of where the maximum numbers of birds can be sighted. So today as well I gave him a call and as usual he made all the arrangements including breakfast as soon as I reached Kumbhgaon.

We went boating for around 3 hours, since it was the begining of October the number of birds were relatively lower. The migration in large numbers will start from November onwards and I plan to visit the place atleast a couple of more times this year.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bhigwan. I left the place at around 3 pm and reached Pune back by 5.30pm. It was an uneventful drive back home.

I have uploaded pictures from my trip for your viewing please. Hope you enjoy the same.

Had read in another post that one has to take a boat and the charges are too expensive. ₹500 is what I read.
