Birding around Mysore - A Photologue

The charming town of Mysore is an ideal base for birding and wildlife enthusiasts. Rich in flora and fauna, it’s one of our handful cities with multiple lakes within city limits. Some well-known national parks are within short driving distance and ideal for day trips.

We recently moved to Mysore and love the place. As a newbie birder, the weekends are now busy photographing birds at nearby Lake.

I refer to the website www.ebird.org to locate the Birding hotspot in and around Mysore.

Within the city limits, these lakes offer great opportunity to spot the birds:
• Kukkarahalli Lake
• Hebbal Lake
• Lingambudhi Lake

Short drive from the city takes you to some of our best national parks:
• Nagarhole National Park
• BR Hills Tiger Reserve
• Bandipur National Park
• Madumalai National Park
• Dubare Forest
• Ranganathithu Bird Sanctury

Our trusted companion: Duster AWD

Really amazing pictures. Some of them are captured at the right moment, especially the last one! I am sure this must be a result of hours of dedication!

Keep posting many more of them.

Hello C300,

Pictures are great. Try these places too:

1) Karanji Lake in Mysore city - on the way to Chamundi Hill.
2) Kokkare Belluru - 80Kms from Mysore.

Regards,
P21

Stunning captures! What camera/lens combo do you use? Kindly share EXIF data for a few images so that we can learn something in the process

Thanks a lot. Have to plan Karanji Lake.
Visited Kokkare Belluru last month. Lovely place. Here are couple of pics of Pied Bushchat from nearby farms.

Thanks a lot. I am using Pentax K5 with 300mm F4. Sometimes couple it with 1.7x TC.

Amazing photos C300. I was born in Mysuru, but have lived in Bengaluru all my life. Of course, I keep visiting my grandparents home and your photos have given me that much more incentive to do so!

Thanks for pointing it our Aravind. The first picture of the warbler looks Plain Prinia, but I am still a bit confused on the second and the third one

Thanks for sharing the details. Its great to know a fellow bhpian and an ornithologist. I recently went to Ranganthittu from Hyderabad.

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travelogues/173135-hyderabad-ranganathittu-search-some-migratory-birds.html

Places that have been commercialized for tourists have shown a massive drop in the number of species. I would definitely like to visit all the places you mentioned above before its too late.
