Will Indian driving license suffice to rent a self drive car in south africa? or international driving license is required?

A very late reply, Yes. Indian license is fine.

Major relief in the offing for Indians with e-Visas and possibly even a 90 day waiver scheme. Should significantly help tourism prospects. Currently for example, it is a painful, expensive and month-long activity to get a RSA visa from Bangalore.
