Pune to Dhom Dam, Wai

Pune to Dhom Dam Wai

Travel Date: 16 Feb 14
Total Distance: 90 Km (One way from Katraj Pune)
Toll: 110 Rs (Return)
Road Conditions: Very good.

It’s time for outdoor lunch for the family and venue was Dhom Dam. This amazing place is situated near Wai village , Satara District. From Wai village, it’s around 9Kms. This 9km stretch is full of greenery and mango trees on both sides of the road. We started from Pune at 10am and reached 11.30am. This is one of the favorite locations for Bollywood. Some of the movies which are shot here includes Rab ne bana de Jodi, Swades, Chennai Express, Singham, Dabangg.

After lunch, dad decided to take a nap

while we all were having fun in water.

After spending 3 hours we decided to visit Menwali Ghat. On the way, we spotted strawberry farm. We asked the owner if we can hand pick the strawberries and were happy when he said, “of course”! Rate was 60 Rs/kg.

From Dam Dam to Menwali ghat, we went via Wai village. This is really picture perfect place. Again this is one of favorite locations for not only Bollywood but Marathi film industry as well. Few names to say: Gangajal, Omkara, Deool.

We started return journey from Wai at 6pm and reached Pune around 8pm (thanks to half hour delay at Khed Shivapur Toll).

I must say, this should be on the to-do list for every tourist who is visiting Mahabaleshwar or Panchgani.

+ 1 , will be good to get the route details. Having done several road trips to Mahabs and Panchgani on bikes decades ago, i wonder how this place never crossed our minds in those days. The pic with your WagonR and the Lake is very nice - at some angles, this location can pass off for the ones at Ladhak i guess. ( just kidding )

A nice little T-log there. Panchagnai, Wai, Satara, Mahabaleshwar.... Places that evoke nostalgia in me. I used to live in Panchagni for about 4 years back in early 2000s. Used to ride down to Wai on a regular basis and Dhom Dam occasionally.

It was last July, during my long drive from Kerala- Gujarat, did spend a couple of days in Panchgani/Wai. A picture taken at Dhom Dam last July.

Beautiful place. First shot almost gives a La-Pangong look! In my hurry to visit Kaas, I overlooked not going here. Will do it next time for sure ! And as I keep telling, its these small nice day-offs; which, are best vacations and which, we would always remember. You guys did not visit the temple?

Wow beautiful place, at first sight it looks like Leh/Ladakh sector. Amazing looking and looks like hardly any crowd. The strawberry looks really yum and fresh. Thanks for sharing had never heard of this beautiful place.

Same car, same smiles, different place. I remember another similar picnic travelogue from you not so long back. There was one awesome shot of a lunch session in the WagonR's shadow.

It's really cool how you take your family out for these drives ever so often. From the pics, it's evident how much fun you guys are having together. I wanted to post just to tell you that

Keep Drivin'

Nice and simple travelogue! Loved the pics and the serenity around them.

I definitely plan on going there soon. Will be traveling from Mumbai though, would you know any good places to stay as it will be one hectic ride (sat/sun types).

Cheers

saildrive,

There are lot of options for stay in Panchagani and Mahabaleshwar, but if you are not planning for them, then there is one better option which is just 4-5 kms away from this dam. Its Rutu Farms. http://www.rutufarm.com/

One of my friend stayed here couple of weeks back, and his experience was nice.

Re: Pune to Dhom Dam, Wai

Dhom dam is a wonderful place - quite, peaceful and not commercialised yet.

Tapola lake is another must-visit while visiting Mahabaleshwar.
