Mt. Washington in a Honda CRV We spent the weekend of June 30th visiting Story Land, NH and Mt Washington (again !!!). A weekend well spent. Here are some photos for your viewing pleasure.
From wikipedia :
The Mount Washington Auto Road is a 7.6 mi (12.2 km) toll road that extends from New Hampshire Route 16 in Pinkham Notch to the summit of Mount Washington in the White Mountains of the US state of New Hampshire. The road climbs 4,618 ft (1,408 m) from an altitude of 1,527 ft (465 m) at the bottom to 6,145 ft (1,873 m) at the top, an average gradient of 11.6%.
I was earlier there for a visit two years back and last years climb to the clouds event, but this is the first time I took my CRV up to the top.
Some photos of the road.
Photos at the top:
Notice that I am standing there fighting 80kmph winds.
I use the tripmaster addin for my 5 year old Tomtom 510, works great.
Photos of car:
We had to stop twice on our way down to cool the brakes even though I used low gear. I noticed that the front right break is getting much hotter than the front left.
While we wait for the CRV to cool down, this 2005 Hyundai Elantra came with smokes from its front wheels. It was a family from Canada, overloaded with their holiday gear. They were completely unaware of the smokes and I had to tell them to take a break.
A huge moose we saw on our way down.
GPS logs from the descent , created via GPS Visualizer profile input form
1. Elevation
2. Slope
3. Speed ( vehicle was always on Low gear)
Here is a video of the descent. I shot it using my cell phone. Sorry about the shaking of video, I didnt have the right mounting gear for my cell phone.
