Hi Buddy,

My Sx4 celebration edition has covered 10,000 kms, even i am facing similar "kat-kat" sound issue in my car. Twice i have visited dealership but they are unable to resolve the issue. Every time i change gear especially 1 & 2 the noise comes and also the car is pulling towards left side. I have checked the alignment, its perfectly okay

Were your able to resolve the issue, please confirm.

Well yes and no, I was able to resolve the problem yes, but the issue has cropped up again and from what I learn it is something that would probably keep coming back time and again.

Mine was a very petty issue the very famous problem of all marutis in I guess,"squeaky seats". I just asked the service centre guys to tighten the seats and the issue was gone but unfortunately a couple of thousand kms and the squeaks were back albiet they are lesser in the magnitude as of now.

I hope yours is the same problem and it gets resolved soon.

I too face this pulling to left but only under hard acceleration, I though have not been able to know why this issue is faced. The service guys say this is quite normal for all DDiS engines, though I have my doubts on that. Probably someone else too can give us some inputs on this.

I hope you do get the issues rectified.

Are you referring to the understeer here ?
If yes, then this is common in most of the CRDI engines , nothing to be concerned about .

Don't we call that torque steer ?, Vehicle pulling to one side under hard acceleration. This is mostly prominent in diesel cars.

Hi People,

I own a Sx4 Zdi (2012) which has done about 11k. I don't find the cooling too impressive, irrespective of the Auto or Manual mode. Tried all the combinations but in vain.

There is cooling in the cabin, but it is not an absolute chiller which i expected. During the afternoon runs, it works like an air cooler. I did gas top up, but not even a marginal difference is there.

I recommend taking the car to MASS and getting the condensing coil looked at.

Check if there is a cabin air filter installed.
The cabin air filter position is behind the glove box. Slightly bend the vertical sides of the glove box and it will come out. There is a horizontal rectangular compartment which is the housing for the cabin air filter. basically the air from the compressor passes through this section before its blown in the cabin.
Mine did not come with the cabin air filter installed. So I had installed a Bosch air filter but found that it significantly reduces the cooling in the cabin. After removing the filter I am now chilling !!

Another reason could be refrigerant gas top-up beyond the normal pressure.
With the car stationery and idling, look for signs of the AC cycling or coming on repeatedly as if it is tripping. This is a symptom of excess gas in the compressor. Basically there is a compression and decompression cycle which produces the cooling. If the pressure is too high then the decompression does not happen effectively resulting in the AC not cooling
If this is the case then you need to take it to MASS to get the excess gas removed

Thanks for the advice, will certainly do so. Also quite surprised that your SX4 didn't come with Air filter. I thought it was pretty much standard.

Do i need to remove the glove box to locate the filter?

Actually it is quite simple
1. Open and empty the glove box
2. On the upper portion of the vertical sides you will find two protrusions/stoppers which prevent the glove box from falling out when you open it
3. Slightly bend the glove box sides inward so that the upper side of the glove box comes out. The lower portion remains attached
4. Behind you will see a horizontal box like section
5. There are clips on the either sides of the filter box. Open them and check.

check the first few pictures in the thread below. Gives you an idea of what to expect. The filter box is almost the same.

Dear friends , there is an issue with sx4 diesel vehicles where by during running, one would not be able to downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear .

The issue is related to gear syncro rings being loose and needs replacement under warranty .

Maruti is silent on this and is expecting that their customer face this issue after the warranty (standard - 40 k) so the responsibility is on the customer to pay for it .

I sincerely request any one with a standard warranty to check with the dealer and do the needful , so it doesn't pinch your pocket later.

Thanks Buddy for sounding this off! I too own a Sx4 (D) which has done about 20k till now. I am surprised MSIL has not circulated this.

It has made me think, how shall i convey this to A.S.S as i am not facing any problems till now? Luckily i opted for 2+2 warranty cover.

Amit, the best approach would be to contact some senior executives in Maruti Suzuki. The customer support is a total waste with standard preconfigured replies.


To start with, you can send an email to RC Bhargava , post this on their facebook page with the link to the team-bhp post.

The same issues faced by 2 customer's on a same model vehicle is definitely a manufacturing defect and nothing else.

Iam really disappointed because i changed my gear oil during the 40 k service and to do the repair i had to again pay for the gear oil /cluth plate etc etc.

The cost involved here is pretty high , hence they are silent and not being proactive.

Think about it, that for a manufacturing defect , a customer has to shell 3k to get the car on the road.
